Family-friendly vacation rentals in Cumbria

Had a wonderful stay with my family in between Christmas and New Year and loved that we could bring our dogs too. The pool table, pac man machine and hot tub were a great hit with the whole family. Close to local pubs and shops including Morrisons and a short drive to Blackpool and Lytham. A very well stocked property which included many items you don’t usually get including dish washer tablets, air fresher, washing up liquid and the welcome basket was a lovely surprise.

I booked here for my partners 27th birthday, we took both of our doggies too and as soon as we walked in we felt instantly at home! The cottage was lovely and warm, very spacious and modern! The hot tub was out of this world! We really didn't want to leave. The views of the river and easily accessible for walks etc. The cottage had everything we needed and more, it really was the perfect start to the year, Becca and Chris were great hosts very friendly and responded to our queries quickly! We will definitely be back! Thanks again! Xxx

Fabulous stay with the Family for our weekend get together. Spacious kitchen / living area and HUGE master suite, however parts of the house are a little tired and need attention. The advert stated Gilchrist & Soames shampoo conditioner and body wash was provided but unfortunately none was to be found. The towels were small and thin with one medium sized one per person, could have done with a hand towel each as well and the high chair provided was not safe for our grand- daughter, due to broken straps. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away and would recommend this property. The views over lake Windermere are beautiful, especially with the snow capped hills surrounding.

First hotel with my partner and we both rlly enjoyed our time there, everything was really clean and staff were very helpful. The room looks exactly like the photo and we were both gutted when we had to leave. Kitchen is very much useable as we made some food and there’s lots of local places to eat, which shazard makes sure to send you. The jacuzzi was rlly nice don’t know many places for this price range to offer that and we left with nothing to complain about. Shazard is lovely and did everthing to make us feel comfortable with no questions un-answered.

We had a great time at Canny Brow Barn. Everything you could possible think of or need for your stay, Ian and Anne-Marie had thought about, from a cocktail shaker to cleaning products to games. Would highly recommend!

Beautiful cottage in what feels like a rural location after dark but only minutes from the M6. The cottage was spotlessly clean and super cosy. We felt right at home. Everything you might need is provided and the bed was super comfy. Would highly recommend a stay here and would definitely visit again for the accommodation and the location. All the information provided when booked and a guide book in the kitchen for anything else. A bottle of wine, tea, coffee, sugar and eggs were provided when we arrived which were an added loveliness.

What a perfect place to stay with all of the family from 11 months to 80+yrs of age. Accessibility for my mum was excellent with walk in showers and sofa chairs easy to get in and out of. A travel cot and high chair provided for the youngest member of the family. A dishwasher including the tablets along with a fully equipped kitchen, plastic glasses for use in the hot tub ideal with a glass of wine or too. Our two dogs enjoyed lots of walks and it was brilliant that the garden was fully enclosed and safe for them too. Sarah the host was lovely nothing was too much trouble, little touches like jigsaws and board games where available and the barn had been decorated for Christmas to make you feelst home. The barn was in a beautiful location with lots of walks and a local pub ( booking is essential). If your into astronomy go to Grassholme Observatory I learnt so much and the dark skies are awesome. We had a lovely New Years break and would highly recommended Sunrise Barn for families.

My wife, 11 year old son and I came here in late December for a pre-Christmas break, and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Peaceful and beautiful surroundings, a home from home and the perfect place to relax - the hot tub helped, too! The hosts were very friendly and responsive, and the cottage had everything we needed. We'd highly recommend Sandysike and we'd definitely consider coming back ourselves.

Fabulous little cottage in the garden, just what we wanted. Julie was a wonderful hostess, made us feel very welcome, basic necessaties all there on arrival even fresh flowers. Already recommended to friends and family.

A lovely little cottage in a central location. Immaculately clean and very welcoming. Sandra is an excellent host ,very quick to respond to messages . We also received a message early on our arrival day to say that the cottage was ready for us which was nice .

A beautiful place to stay inside and out. The views were breathtaking! Our little dogs loved playing in the garden which was well fenced (even our mischievous Westie couldn’t find a way to escape!) The fire was such a nice touch, we loved having fires each day. Wood was supplied if you didn’t use the heating which was great! Coming from a city we don’t have a fire so happy to not use the heating! Kate was so responsive and really friendly. We even had some fresh eggs from her hens which was so lovely. We were thrilled to see the property in snow on our last night/day it really just rounded off our stay perfectly! If you are thinking about booking..do it! Also the shower is great! (Always something I judge! Haha) Can’t wait to rebook!❤️

Amazing overnight stay. Beautiful surroundings, the food In the pub was incredible. Especially the pies! Will be back again for sure. Hosts and everyone were so friendly, even being our 2 big dogs it was a great stay.

The cottage is lovely. Lounge area nicely furnished and very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped and spotless. As were the bedrooms. The street is full of character and very pretty with all the flower pots and benches and takes you straight to the town or to the river. Rothbury is lovely. Some lovely shops. Very friendly locals. Very conveniently placed for all destinations. The bakers butchers and delicatessen are all excellent. Big Coop if needed. We didn’t go into the pubs but they all looked lively and friendly. We loved it all.

What can I say... Absolutely fantastic place. You couldn't ask for anything more. Really peaceful location with fantastic views of the hills etc. We had a strange issue but this was sorted out very swiftly by Malcolm 👍 We will definitely be looking to book again and have another peaceful time just watching the world go by. A perfectly located house within a very pleasant 10 minute walk into the centre of Keswick and only 5 mins from lovely Fitz park which has stunning views. So many places to visit, eat and drink. The car parking space was great, I can imagine it would have been a nightmare staying at accomodation with on road parking as the residential roads are crammed with parked cars. Jill was very responsive. Would definitely stay here again.

Me and my friends had a fantastic time in Windermere thanks to the location and space we had with Johns flat. We couldn't have asked for anything more to be honest, particularly considering the low price that was paid. Will definitely stay here again when we next come to visit!

Simon and Belinda were very responsive and helpful. The property was decorated very nice and mostly clean. Excellent location, no need to drive anywhere, pubs & the langdale hotel, as well as coffee shops and small co-op within walking distance. Great walks to Grasmere, Elterwater all from the house. Could have done with more logs so make sure to bring your own as it’s only a small basket provided. Higher expectations on guests hoovering the house/stripping beds etc before leaving than other places, although the house wasn’t super clean when we arrived. Parking is tough in Chapel Stile with most properties being holiday lets, the bonus of one parking space was handy but worth noting to find a second is difficult. Overall we had a great stay and loved the location, it was brilliant for walking and great size place for 4 people.

Great place to stay, has everything you need was clean & tidy, lovely sitting outside in the evenings with the fire pit, 5mins from Amberside town witch has everything you need, lovely walks round the area, would recommend highly.

Really wonderful stay at Deborahs and Clives bungalow/ cottage! Really responsive to messages, whenever I had a question, they answered within minutes! Really clean and so cosy and warm too, towels were provided, wifi, everything that was desribed was shown, truly great place to stay. I think the one thing I would suggest is make sure to stay that extra night, checking in after 4pm and having to check out before 10am kinda cuts into the day, so stay longer to enjoy it! Also the hottub is awesome, but some lights would be nice outside to showcase the cute corner where the hottub is situated, especially in these months where it gets pitch black by 4:30pm 😂 But all in all, a wonderful stay and hope to come back in the near future!

Second time staying at Ecclerigg and was perfect again. Great property, perfect for families in a wonderful location. highly recommended!!

We had a great few days in this little house, and were able to explore a number of different beautiful locations from this spot. Recommended for hikers and walkers, although you will need a car as the location is pretty remote.

We love this place so much we've booked again for next Christmas. The lodge itself is equipped with more things than you have at home, it is very well appointed and you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. It is clean and beds very comfortable. The setting is beyond beautiful and we had a robin who called everyday, and a pair of deer who happily came into the bottom of the garden two of the days we were there. The Christmas decor made it extra Christmassy and my little boy soon made himself at home. With only a short walk away to Skelwith Bridge and the lovely Chesters by the River or a ten minute drive to Ambleside this is a perfect location for any couple or family wishing to relax. The owners had left us a bottle of prosecco upon arrival and gave clear and specific instructions of how to find the the lodge. A perfect retreat for a well earned relax. I'm so glad we found this little peace of heaven. Thank you Andy and Maggie.

The lodge was very clean and on a superb quiet site. There was everything we needed for a restful holiday. We has Sunday lunch at the on-site Gamekeepers Inn - very good and reasonably priced too. As others have said, the pork pies from the local butchers at the Spar shop were excellent. We have been in the Yorkshire Dales several times and we love the area. Angie was very good at communication with us before and during our stay. Thank you Angie
