Vacation rentals with lake access in Cumbria

We had a lovely 3 night break at Mountain Cottage. It's in a beautiful elevated position in Coniston and was walkable to the shops/pubs in the village. The layout worked perfectly for us - as the two bedrooms are well away from each other, and the extra single bedroom is useful if you have snoring issues! We felt really at home here and it was warm and cosy. The outside pavers/patio/steps were very slippy so do take care, and the parking space needs approaching in a very low gear - watch the video on the guide and you'll be fine. Overall we felt Mountain Cottage was a home from home and great value for money.

We had a lovely long weekend in Windermere. The house is perfectly situated between Windermere and Bowness, in easy walking distance of both towns. It is well kitted out and very spacious - we especially enjoyed relaxing in the living room in front of the fire after a busy day of exploring in the area. The suggestions of things to do in the area were very much appreciated, as was the welcome pack left for our arrival.

We had a wonderful three-night stay. We are very familiar with Bowness but this is the first time we have booked an Airbnb for our trip. The cottage is right in the heart of Bowness along a surprisingly quiet lane, despite its location. Our party consisted of four adults and one child (10 years old). The cottage offered us exactly what we needed - comfortable beds, space to relax and a great kitchen space. Our 10 year old found the property very exciting to explore given its unusual layout. Lots of stairs to get to the top floor where there are two bedrooms, so a bit of an effort. But the master bedroom is located half way up and on same level as bathroom. Lots of wardrobe space and the bedrooms are large -which wasn’t expected for a ‘cottage’. Will definitely return!

This was our first little holiday with the little one and both our dogs. We had a wonderful time together. The place was easy to find thanks to Alans instructions, we arrived a little early so I messaged Alan about checking in a tad early and he responded right away, it was no issue and no extra charge. The place was spotless and we felt right at home welcomed with some shortbread and a bittle of wine. We will definetly book here again, the dogs had a lovely time and settled in extremely well. The decking was closed off securely for them to potter about outside. We visited Alnwick gardens and the treehouse for dinner. The crazy horse pizza was lovely the first night we arrived and it was a dog friendly place so they were happy with us. Thank you very much for allowing us to stay with 2 dogs, some places only limit to 1.

Stayed for 2 nights. Beautiful house, very warm and cosy. Spotlessly clean and tidy. We stayed during the storm but we will definitely come back in the summer as the garden is amazing. Mark was a brilliant host, kept in touch and very quick to answer any queries we had. I would recommend staying here lovely walk around the lake which is about a 5 minute walk away. No complaints whatsoever.

Very clean and located right by the village and its pubs and shops. House spotlessly clean great shower and also clear housekeeping instructions along with useful information around local walks etc. This was my first time using Airbnb and was really impressed

We really enjoyed our stay here. This is our 9th holiday to The Lakes, all staying in and around Windermere. The house was in a great location and very homely. We were made to feel very welcome - easy check in and messages to check we'd arrived safely. We would stay here again. Very close to the pub and then the highstreet and local amenities.

John was always on hand to speak to. messaged quickly. perfect spot for us near the middle of Windermere. apartment was a great size and had all we needed.

Fantastic Airbnb. Hosts very kindly let us check in 90 mins early and provided tea/coffee/milk/continental breakfast/toiletries. Ten minutes walk to nearby cafe/shop/bakery/pub/smokehouse. Glasson Dock is on the England coastal path, so great if you’re walking it as we were. If pub shut for evening meal then can eat at Stork Inn which is in nearby Condor Green (being just over a miles walk on a pedestrianised route, so safe if walking late at night). Great bird watching area.

What a lovely place to stay! Swirl How is great! We walked in from the rain after a long journey of train delays and cancellations and immediately felt welcome! The flat was beautifully warm and clean and looked exactly like the photos showed. Directions and check in instructions were perfect and we were able to have a slightly later check out to tie in with our train times. We used the local buses - they are brilliant and all inter-connected. We loved shopping at Booths and being able to cook rather than having to eat out (though there’s a fab choice of places on the doorstep.) I just wish we could have stayed longer! Wonderful place to stay near Wastwater. Beautiful flat, nicely decorated, comfortable and spotlessly clean. On the first floor with outdoor steps. Easy short walk down to the lake to swim or launch paddlboards. Can walk fells from the flat, perfect location. Really enjoyed our stay and would return.

My stay at Helen’s was very nice especially for the 40 mins notice 😮 by the time we had gotten there, the house was all ready nice and warm and well stocked even with milk for a nice brew after a long drive I would 100 percent recommend this property and will be visiting again - the hamper of local produce was a nice touch as well 😃

Liam was very communicative and his place was beautiful, comfortable, and very well maintained. The location is very walkable and there is a lot to see and do!

I booked Ade and Kerry's cottage as a gift for my parents. I had stayed the previous year and absolutely loved it. A beautiful cottage and a stunning location which my parents have fallen for too. Will absolutely stay again.

We enjoyed our stay in Ambleside. It is very close to the centre. You get designated parking space and a cottage with two bedrooms upstairs. Everything was clean, there is nice standing shower and the kitchen is well equipped.

Fantastic place to stay a short drive from Windermere. Mark and Ruth were great hosts, very friendly and responsive. The private beach area is amazing. I would love to visit Mark and Ruth’s AirBnB again.

Incredible views from this comfortable cottage which was spotlessly clean and well-equipped.

What a fantastic find! Swinside cottage is perched on the hilside overlooking High Lorton, with fantastic views of the surrounding area. The narrow - gated - single track road accessing the property has virtually no traffic at all, and we enjoyed peace and tranquility (although we did get the expected wind and rain - it's the Lake District!). The cottage is wonderfully old, but has a well equiped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms (and beds). The log burner in the sitting room works very well, and added that extra warmth in the evenings. There are some interesting walks from the front door, and of course, you are surrounded by excellent forests, stunning hills and beautiful lakes. The Kirkstile Inn in Loweswater is well worth the short drive.. excellent food! I'm sure we will be back to enjoy Diana's cottage once again. She is an excellent host - always there when you have a question, but never intrusive. Many thanks Diana!! ...and we look forward to the next time!

Hermitage Estate was a page out of a book. We had a wonderful stay at Hermitage Cottage in Lancaster! The property is charming, cozy, and beautifully maintained, with all the comforts you need for a relaxing getaway. The cottage is well stocked and maintained. Comfy beds which gave us a peaceful sleep, spotless bathrooms and a picturesque living space. Our highlight of the trip was the jacuzzi. The location is peaceful yet convenient for exploring Lancaster and the surrounding area. You’re essentially on a private island yet all grocery shops and restaurants within an arms reach. The hosts were welcoming and attentive, making sure everything was perfect for our stay. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a serene and comfortable retreat! My wife and I had the best anniversary getaway ever. Thank you Jerry, we will certainly be back!
