Olympiapark
Versatile leisure park with iconic architecture, cultural events, and panoramic city views
Summarized by AI
Explore the 1972 Olympic grounds with their distinctive stadiums, lakes, and tent-style roofs, then ride up the Olympic Tower for panoramic city and Alps views and a rotating restaurant meal above Munich. Walk, jog, cycle, picnic, or watch ducks by the water, and in winter use Olympiaberg for skiing, sledging, or just climbing for the sunset. Swim or skate in the Olympic pool and ice center, catch concerts, festivals, and the summer open-air cinema. Across the street, visit the BMW Museum.

Englischer Garten
Expansive urban park featuring scenic trails, beer gardens, a Japanese teahouse, and the Eisbach wave
Summarized by AI
In the Englischer Garten you can watch surfers ride the Eisbachwelle, swim or float down the river on hot days, feed ducks and swans at the lake, or rent a rowing or pedal boat. Relax on the lawns, picnic, jog, cycle, or follow the 78 km of paths through busy meadows and quieter northern areas. Stop at beer gardens like the Chinese Tower with Bavarian music or Seehaus on the lake, and visit the Monopteros and Japanese teahouse for calm views and cultural touches.

Nymphenburg Palace
Expansive baroque palace with museums, gardens, and park castles
Summarized by AI
Inside Nymphenburg Palace, walk through the Great Hall with its frescoes, see the room where King Ludwig II was born, and visit Ludwig I’s Gallery of Beauties, the blue porcelain displays, and the royal carriages and sleighs. Use the combination ticket to also explore the small park palaces Amalienburg, Badenburg, and Pagodenburg, plus the Nymphenburg Porcelain Museum. Outside, run or stroll through the free palace park with its lakes, wildlife, and gondolas, then stop at the Schlosscafe im Palmenhaus or other garden cafés. If you have extra time, continue into the adjoining Botanical Garden for more quiet paths and tropical greenhouses.

Deutsches Museum
Interactive museum exploring technology and natural sciences with hands-on exhibits and live demonstrations
Summarized by AI
At the Deutsches Museum you can dive into 20+ permanent exhibitions covering everything from astronautics, aviation and ships to chemistry, robotics, optics, energy and health. Try the many hands-on exhibits, push-button experiments and live demonstrations that explain how natural laws and technologies work, and let kids tinker, experiment and feel like real engineers. Join a workshop, where on some Saturdays you can even put on a lab coat and isolate your own DNA. Afterwards, visit the rooftop cafeteria “Frau im Mond” for views over the Isar River.

Eisbachwelle
Popular urban surfing spot with a unique standing wave, located in the English Garden
Summarized by AI
At the Eisbachwelle you can watch skilled surfers ride a powerful standing river wave in the middle of Munich, 365 days a year, even at night and in winter. Bring your camera, enjoy the intense atmosphere on the bridge, or, if you’re truly confident in fast, cold water, follow locals and jump in behind the wave to float downstream (strong swimming skills recommended). It’s a well-known spot in the surfing world, even visited by Jack Johnson. Afterward, continue into the English Garden, the Japanese Tea House, the Chinese Tower beer garden, or nearby Haus der Kunst and Goldene Bar.

Viktualienmarkt Beergarden
Summarized by AI
At Viktualienmarkt Beergarden you can sit under the trees with a Maß beer, enjoy Weisswurst, pretzels, and creamy Bavarian cheese like Obatzder, and follow the local tradition of bringing your own food as long as you buy drinks. Wander the historic, bustling market stalls for top-quality vegetables, meat, fish, spices, delicatessen, and organic produce at places like Trübenecker. Sample Bavarian sausages, international specialties, and pick up souvenirs while soaking in a very local, central Munich atmosphere.

All about Munich
With a powerhouse economy all of its own and the biggest concentration of theatres and art venues in Germany, Munich is a force to be reckoned with. Tradition plays a big role in Bavaria, from cheerful oompah bands to world-famous lederhosen. Here, centuries of history converge with technological advances, generous green spaces, and the city’s great love: beer. Breweries can be found at every turn, dotted with communal benches for lively conversation and plates piled high with sausages and soft pretzels.
Away from the chatter and brass instruments, Munich boasts a varied and popular art scene, with a slew of galleries large and small and a bone fide arts quarter, Kunstareal. After a morning strolling around in the shadow of the imposing 15th-century Frauenkirche (“Women’s Church”), head north for an immersive experience at the famous local car museum, then find a quiet spot in Olympiapark for a leisurely picnic under the bright Munich sun.
What are the top things to do in Munich?
Drehleier Theater
Looking for some interactive entertainment? You could become part of the show at the intimate Drehleier Theater on the eastern side of the Isar River. Pick from comedy performances, musical offerings, and even burlesque acts at this popular local venue; you can grab a bite to eat here, too.
Bellevue di Monaco
Located in the heart of the city, Bellevue di Monaco provides homes for young adults, families, and mothers in need of support, while the on-site café’s inclusive approach includes a multicultural menu and a “pay what you can” policy. Volunteers run language classes, social meet-ups, and even a bike repair shop.
Watch surfers in the park
On your morning stroll around Munich’s peaceful English Garden, don’t be alarmed at the sudden sound of thundering water. Simply grab a coffee and settle down by the rushing Eisbach creek to watch the city’s gaggle of surfers hang ten and show off their skills. Be aware, though: unless you’re an experienced wave rider pro, it’s advisable to leave this activity to the regulars.
