Such a nice spot. Definitely best to have a car, but it’s peaceful and right along two nice bush walks. The family is also super welcoming and friendly!

The family type home is only a few hundred metres from the Russell end of the car ferry. The house is easy to find, and is very clean and tidy, nicely appointed and has everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom. It felt like home the moment we arrived. It's only about a 10 minute drive into Russell itself, which has shopping, groceries, lovely restaurants and cafes, and tourist options galore. Antje and David were great hosts - non intrusive but helpful when required.

What an amazing location. We loved everything about Thys’s place! From the beautiful views on our two private decks (where we enjoyed every evening listening to the sounds of our visiting Tuis and Common Mynas) to the very comfy, spacious bed! It was also very useful to be able to do our washing and dry it outside. It wasn’t far to drive to Paihia, for a very enjoyable sail on Carina yacht, which included dolphin and blue penguin sightings while we toured the islands. A ferry trip by car to Russell to visit Omata vineyard for some beautiful views and not bad wine, plus a drive up to Flagstaff hill for more incredible views and some noteworthy history. We even managed 9 holes at Whaitangi golf club with more stunning scenery, nice fairways at a very reasonable cost; as we had no kit with us at all. Twelve new balls one lost! All in all, staying with Thys in Opua is a great location to tour the Bay Of Islands and chill in the evenings, surrounded by so much beauty.
