Family-friendly vacation rentals in County Durham

Had a couple of lovely relaxing days, really impressed with Maple Cottage, great peaceful surroundings, cottage is like a home from home, warm, clean and comfortable, everything provided, wanted for nothing. great hosts, definitely recommend. Bonus for us was the cloud free evening, with no light pollution, the view of the stars was amaxing. Jeff & Margaret

The photos don’t do this place justice. It really is beautiful. Quaint, spacious, clean and tidy. Plenty of facilities such as vac, mop, washing machine, dryer, cleaning products etc. Kitchen is a lovely space to all sit together. Bedrooms were very spacious and room for clothes etc. Lovely nights sleep in comfortable beds. Central heating worked a treat with log fire in the room (we didn’t need to use) including other heaters. It is lovely and warm and cosy. The views and surrounding areas are lovely. We used the hot tub which was a lovely addition and worked well been outside the conservatory part. We were a family group of mixed ages and we would absolutely stay here again. Host was great with contact prior to arrival with flexible check in/out. Overall a brilliant stay and we’ve also said we would return.

Fantastic cottage and location is to die for. I have got to say David and Barbara have a jewel here. Claire has communicated everything we needed and answered every question we had. Again fantastic. Highly recommend this place. Thanks and hope to return

A fantastic time away in a relaxing and cosy cottage. Pub opposite the house did good food and had easy access to surrounding countryside. Would go back again!

Emma’s lovely, clean flat in the middle of Bishop was ideal for us. The bedrooms are spacious with massive & comfortable beds. The kitchen is great for cooking and eating as a family & the bathroom’s fab. The living room is really cosy & lots of choice on the TV. It’s great that we could bring our dog as well. Parking right outside made this really convenient. We will definitely be back, as we have family close by. Thanks for a great stay!

Sublime cottage, so peaceful and so cosy. Peter was extremely helpful and welcoming to us and our pups. The Christmas theme in the cottage made it even more special and the Christmas cake left for us was just delicious. Thankyou so much for a perfect escape from our chaotic lives for 48 hours. We will be back 😀

Great little cottage in a beautiful village. We knew the place well already. It's a short stroll to a couple of great pubs and restaurants. The place itself was warm, cosy, and quiet. Comfy beds. Would definitely book again.

Great spot for our purpose which was to visit our new grandson in Shotley bridge nearby. Extremely clean which was great. Photos of the view are taken from the upstairs window so a bit misrepresentative but it didn’t bother us. Very comfortable beds & very warm!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we felt at home from the day we arrived. The cottage was perfect for our extended stay (a month) and we will fondly remember our time in the cottage, Frosterley and the Weardale and North Pennines area. Our hosts were very friendly, laid back and made us feel wonderfully relaxed during our stay. The cottage was warm, comfortable and well appointed and ideal for our needs. We would definitely recommend River View Cottage and the other accommodation in the courtyard to family and friends and we would definitely consider returning in the future for another break.

We had a lovely stay at James' light airy home with great views across the countryside. The kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed. There are good pubs nearby to eat. We recommend The New Board Inn which had a good varied menu and serves till 9pm. Comfy beds too - we all slept really well.

West Cottage perfect for a family of 4 with 2 boys, looking to get out into the countryside and explore the area. Beautiful location, photos don’t do it justice, surrounded by green hills, sheep and with a brook below the garden. We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves which meant we could use the wave machine, hot tub and games room whenever we wanted after days out. Also enjoyed having our meals out on the lawn. Cottage had all we needed, comfy beds and kitchen well-equipped.

We loved the remoteness of the cottage, the peace & quiet. Loved the pool & hot tub which is a must if we don't stay coastal.You definitely need a car to access any shops as the nearest shop is 2.3 miles and this closes at 5. No pubs within walking distance and some pubs only opened certain days and opened at 6. However that's what makes the place attractive & peaceful. Lots of places to visit with 10 mile radius. Great walks and historical sites to see. Beautiful landscape. Cottage was very snug & comfortable.
