What a truly perfect place to pause and explore Durham. Stunningly situated up on the hill and and easy 20 minute walk (easy as it’s downhill) and a £7 Uber back from the city centre. Easy access to the A1 from here too! Staff couldn’t have been more helpful, lovely or attentive. Even leaving us a present in our room for the first night of our honeymoon. Next time we’re in Durham, we won’t stay anywhere else!

This place beats every other booking I have made on Airbnb. Deserves beyond a 5 ⭐️ Was in Newcastle for a short weekend trip, visiting family with my wife and 5 year old. Gary’s place was only 24mins from our destination, so it was not too much distance. Gary is great personality, friendly and chatty. Made our little girl feel at home. The apartment was in pristine condition you would not want to mess it up. Very private with sparkling bathroom (and sufficient bathroom supplies and toiletries) and lounge where you have several video collections and access to internet to stream online if you wish. So many free options for breakfast as well. Such a great deal for great price. I will certainly book this place again when next I am in the area.

Firstly, and most importantly, Sara was the most incredible host. She is a wonderful human, and looked after me perfectly. Coffee and breakfast in the morning. She arranged a seat in the sun for reading outside in the afternoon, and pre-lit the fire in the evening so the private living room was cozy on my return from dinner. And so much more. Birkenpath is a gem of a house, set in the most gorgeous nature. Large and comfy bedroom inside, and gorgeous hikes just out the front door. Don’t hesitate to book. It is among the very best of the best.

I had seen Moira's place previously on Air B and B and opted instead for other properties where the premises were only for you such as a detached cottage. That was a mistake as Moira's place surpassed all expectations. In brief... 1: lovely property with two huge rooms provided (the master bedroom was ensuite) one of which has massive windows from which we were able to observe wildlife easily; 2: the quality of the rooms was great - top quality furniture, very comfortable bed, etc; 3: Moira was friendly and very communicative; 4: Moira used the downstairs of the house and we had the first floor (there were two other guests also present in other rooms but we neither saw nor heard them). When we next return to the North East, we will definitely aim to book with Moira. Highly recommended.

The Coach House - double room, lounge & fireplace

Heather is a wonderful host and the Coach House is exactly as described. The information provided by Heather is really helpful and Heather responds to queries very quickly. The Coach House is spotlessly clean and has everything you need although the provision of a TV would be a bonus. However, WiFi is available and guests are offered the opportunity to watch TV to on their own devices. The location is excellent with lovely views from the Coach House windows. I would highly recommend the Coach House and I plan to return soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Georgian Townhouse. The accommodation was perfect, beautifully clean, very comfy beds and the hosts were so helpful. The breakfast at the pancake cafe was delicious too. Would definitely recommend, and we will definitely stay again. Thank you Jane and Robert.

Great place to stay if you’re doing the C2C cycle. The Cross Keys pub is a good 10-minute walk (downhill there, uphill on way back). Make sure to save some energy for the walk and book in advance as pub is quite small and v busy! Breakfast was great: help yourself and tonnes of cereal, toast and eggs. Sophie very kindly got some soya milk after I asked for a dairy free option. Sophie and Lizzie also kindly turned the heating on so the room was lovely and warm on arrival. Thanks for a great stay!

Great little cottage for a short stay. Angie was very helpful and friendly. Easy to find, very peaceful. Enclosed gravelled area to the back, perfect if you smoke or have a four legged friend. The pub next door was fantastic, service and food second to non, only downside is it didn't serve breakfast.

Stayed here while I attended a wedding at Redworth Hall so it was a perfect location for that. The room was nice and spacious, lovely comfy bed and I opted for the £5 cooked breakfast in the morning which was a nice treat. Paul and Jasmine made me feel very welcome.

Great stopover whilst doing the C2C cycle. There is bike storage, a large and well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and clean bathroom. The local pub was not serving food so we went via the co-op in Stanhope to stock up on food. When we arrived at the airbnb there was fruit and breakfast ingredients - a great touch! Sophie was good at communicating and Lizzie was very welcoming - thank you!

The cafe of the Georgian Townhouse is one of my favorite places to go when I was studying in Durham. Jane and Robert are very welcoming hosts that made my family felt at home. The radiator didn’t heat up fast but Jane gave me an electric fan which helped a lot. The breakfast is amazing as usual (love the pancakes). Enjoyed our time very much during our stay. Hope to be back here again someday.

Comfy beds and very clean. The host was very welcoming, organised and helpful. We were in Durham for a University visit and although it was a little far from the campus it wasn’t a problem as the transport links are great and our host was kind enough to drop us off near the University. Would recommend.
