Lake house vacation rentals in South Lakeland District

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Abbots Moss. It was last minute (same day booking) and everything was ready and in order. The house was definitely a home away from home which is exactly what I am looking for. We have two children and a very well behaved golden - all loved the location and the house. The grounds and lake are exquisite and so peaceful. The lounge area was beautifully decorated with sofas I would purchase for my own home. Linens are also something I look for and the beds were all lovely. We enjoyed the area, eating out at some local recommendations, visiting Hadrian's Wall, completing our first family Wainwright summit! Thank you Tamar. We would love to return!

The barn was the perfect location for our weekend away. The living area is so social with lots of space to all eat together and relax. The rooms were all very clean and comfortable with the option to arrange beds to suit your group. The location is truly wonderful. Beautiful views over Coniston and so secluded. The private lake access was a real bonus - stunning November morning swims!

We had the pleasure of a stay at Lindsays home with our 13 month old and our little dog. It was absolutely beautiful. Not a single thing to fault and we loved the added touches. It was a taste of luxury inside a cosy home from home! Lindsay truly thought of everything. We have already booked to stay again 🤩

A fantastic property in a tranquil spot on the waters edge. Great walks nearby. This property was spotless and Abi the host has clearly thought carefully about how to provide a homely yet practical space. Great bathrooms and kitchen. Picture windows from the lounge and main bedroom. Plenty of parking space with amenities nearby.

I would agree with previous comments. The property is gorgeous and in pristine condition with waterside access where we could launch our kayak and paddle boards. These as well as bicycles are also available to hire close by. All amenities are within walking distance and the nearby ferry provides access to the western shore of Lake Windermere. There is a lovely out and back path along the edge of the lake ideal for runners as well as several circular walks. All in all a we had a fantastic active family holiday but you can equally spend time on the balcony watching the world go by. Helen’s welcome pack is exceptional providing you with essentials to start your holiday. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch. I would love to come back one day. Thanks.

Stayed for 2 nights. Beautiful house, very warm and cosy. Spotlessly clean and tidy. We stayed during the storm but we will definitely come back in the summer as the garden is amazing. Mark was a brilliant host, kept in touch and very quick to answer any queries we had. I would recommend staying here lovely walk around the lake which is about a 5 minute walk away. No complaints whatsoever.

Our stay at Bells View was one where life long memories were made. The house was incredible, spacious, clean and perfect location in Kippford. The hosts were friendly and engaging. I can’t recommend this property enough. Will definitely use again

Great location and beautiful home. House is stacked with anything you need for a holiday in Windermere regardless of weather. Kitchen is excellent, Bedrooms are spacious and multiple bathrooms makes it ideal for several families to share the home.

Sandown House made our summer visit to the Lake District enjoyable. Space for our immediate family and extended family and friends. We nicknamed it the upside down house because the bedrooms are on the ground floor and the kitchen and living rooms on the top floor. Plenty of parking, walking distance to all that Bowness-on-Windermere has to offer. We think the on suite bathrooms are tiny, but we are tall people (6’and 6’4”) other than that plenty of space to stretch out. Lovely welcome hamper upon our arrival added a nice touch from the owners.

Fabulous lodge, beautifully decorated for Christmas with a lovely festive welcome pack waiting for us on arrival. The beds were comfy and a good size unlike other lodges we've stayed in. Peaceful site which is close to plenty of restaurants and other amenities. Good communication from the host. We had a perfect family Christmas staying here and enjoyed it so much, we've already booked another stay.

Had a truly wonderful stay at the cottage, jenkinson place. Well appointed warm and cozy cottage. Great walks direct from the cottage to loweswater and surrounding area

Very clean and comfortable. Heating worked well in very cold weather. Tom responded extremely well to solve a minor toilet issue. 20 minute walk to Bowness waterfront. Very well equipped. Accommodation on 4 floors with steep stairs between. Can definitely recommend this property.

We stayed over Christmas, gorgeous house, didn’t need to use the car at all, very central location. Lyn was a great host, will definitely book again.

I was very pleased to find Cheryl's place as our original booking cancelled with just a couple of weeks to go. It was thoughtfully and beautifully decorated and provisioned, and was a lovely base for our break, even if we did have to leave a day early due to threatening snow! Would recommend.

This was the absolute perfect place to stay for our trip - I grew up in the area and now live in Canada. We came back for a family reunion over New Year (my parents live very close by). Holly was super helpful and always responded very quickly to any queries. The house was very welcoming, clean, very well furnished and well equipped. Very quiet neighbourhood. Very comfortable beds! Check in instructions were very clear and well communicated. Thank you Holly for helping make our trip very special.

Annabel is a great person and very helpful. She suggested few places to visit, which comes out worthy to visit. She is very responsive with all of our questions. I definitely want to visit this place again soon. It’s a perfect getaway from crowds and spend some time with nature without any disturbances.

Beautiful house with lovely decorations/ extra touches such as candles, cosy blankets etc. The log burner made the house feel cosy and there was plenty of logs provided. The kitchen/dining area was very well equiped with plenty of plates etc. There were also lots of extras provided such as washing up liquid, bin bags, tea, coffee, sugar etc. The only thing we needed to buy was some dishwasher tablets. The bathroom was probably the one area that wasn't 5 star as the hot tap handle kept falling off. The shower was also very noisy and leaked so this could only be used when everyone was awake (if you have any older members in your party they will probably need to use the ensuite shower as the shower in the bathroom is over the bathtub which has very high sides so is tricky to get in/ out of). Overall a beautiful house in a tranquil setting. Thank you.

Butterfly Lodge is one of the best places we have stayed. Anita and Bruce worked extremely hard moving snow to make access safe. We had already been able to move our dates because of the weather. Communication was excellent and they quickly responded to any questions. The property is fantastic, decorated to a very high standard with lots of interesting pictures etc. Despite the very low temperatures outside the property was extremely warm and cosy. We really appreciated the delicious homemade bread and the other food items left for us. The area is stunning, lovely villages and countryside to explore. We would definitely recommend Butterfly Lodge and will be returning for another stay.
