Aurora, is an earthed Nordic cliff edge ocean fronted home. The journey to create this home has been one of discovery and purpose.
We created land where there was none, to transform cliffs into a dream homestead perched on the side of a rock, a dialogue between the raw power of the earth and the precision of human design.
This dwelling is built around monolithic materials to embrace its nature-scape, rolling ocean waves, whilst crafting a modern autonomous home that has its own mind and soul.
The space
One of the things that we try not to take for granted is the beautiful landscape that we live in. We are surrounded by volcanic mountains, rolling seas and dramatic nature-scapes. Of all the places on the coastline of the archipelago of Madeira, this cliff edge is one of the most dramatic of spots. And the whole house looks down here at this tiny crescent of farms with the rolling sea and incredible sunsets, perched inside a year-long warm micro-climate.
Often, staring into the vacance, you find yourself not knowing where you are, you don’t know where else your mind will wander and take you.
This home, set on the cliffs of Madeira’s coastline, stands as a witness to every sunset, every storm that rolls in from the ocean. We took a site that seemed impossible—a rugged rock face—and transformed it into a dreamscape. A sanctuary, carved from the earth, yet elevated into the sky.
This is a place where simplicity and beauty reigns. All spaces face the sea with undisturbed views and sounds of the waves, whether in the rain shower, fireplace, in-room spa, outdoor cinema, heated plunge pool or BBQ lounge.
Aurora revolves around life’s rituals—the simple, everyday moments of bathing, sleeping, eating, and connecting. Yet, within this simplicity lies something profound. Each space in this home is designed to heighten these experiences: a spa bathroom that invites you to gaze out at the endless sea, a lounge tucked into the cliffside that shelters you from the wind while letting the horizon spill into view.
As we built this home, we embraced the ancient concepts of Wabi Sabi, finding beauty in the imperfect, the transient. The black bamboo, black grass, the red maple—each plant chosen to reflect the passage of time, to honour the natural world we are privileged to be a part of. And while technology powers this home, the design speaks to something timeless—a reverence for the land, for simplicity, and for a life lived fully.
This is a refuge where architecture, nature, and soul converge, creating a space where you can lose yourself—and find yourself—in the same breath.
This project has been an extraordinary journey for us—an exploration of design and a testament to innovative engineering. Every corner of this house, perched on the rugged cliffs of Madeira, tells a story of harmony between man and nature and our relationship with a way of living. A place where the boundaries blur and the extraordinary landscape becomes part of the home.

Full home access as described. Door entry is by QR code which is shared after booking.
Other things to note
We charge a 1000 EUR security deposit to cover abuse of house rules, missing items and serious negligent damages that is mandatory for all guests. It is automatically refunded on checkout.

You must read our terms and conditions on our property Dashboard before arrival, of which the key ones are:
- We do not allow parties and events of any sort in the property.
- No smoking inside a 10 metres around the property.
- No drug use permitted on premises.
- No pets and animals over 5 Kgs allowed on site. Pets are not allowed on the sofas, cushions and beds.
- Guests including children visiting and staying more than maximum capacity of the home are strictly not allowed by law.
- No products or inventory is to be removed from the property.
- No modification, tampering or alteration of the house systems, devices, circuit boards, piping and technology is allowed.
- Commercial video and photoshoots are not allowed in the property without prior license and permission. Please contact us for a filming contract and price quotation.
