The space
This striking one bedroom property with open countryside views is attached to the west wing of a newly renovated and extended family home. Owl House is a converted Elizabethan cruck beamed barn that dates back to around the 16th century. With its own private entrance and garden this delightful retreat is a must for anyone wanting to soak up the beauty of the North Yorkshire countryside in comfort and luxury.
You'll make your way to the property via a short private driveway, through a five bar gate and past stables to a parking area overlooking our paddock which through Spring, Summer and Autumn belongs to lambs and their ewes. When you enter you'll discover a beautiful light-filled, open plan area on two levels, decorated with eclectic pieces of furniture and a big comfy sofa and chairs. One of the property's most eye-catching features is a stunning floor to ceiling window which provides wonderful views all the way across the vale of Pickering to the Howardian Hills in the distance.
The lovely handmade wood kitchen is equipped with everything you could need to cook a delicious feast and has an extendable dining table with seating for four guests. You'll be able to enjoy the view with a glass of wine while you cook, and if the weather is nice there are French doors that open directly onto your garden, an ideal place to eat while enjoying the regularly spectacular sunsets. The bathroom features a luxury walk-in ceiling-mounted rain shower, heated towel rail and Scandi style teak vanity unit. Underfloor heating runs throughout the ground floor, making the limestone flags wonderfully warm under foot.
When it's time for bed the mezzanine bedroom is reached via a wooden staircase with continuing views across the Vale through the double height glazed gable end window. Two stylish and comfy leather chairs face out over the view and the owners have provided binoculars and a record player so you can while away some time exploring while listening to music. This is also a great spot to watch local wildlife with your morning coffee. The super-king size bed has an award winning memory foam mattress and you'll enjoy using environmentally friendly bamboo bedsheets and pillows to ensure a great night's kip and you can choose to wake up to the glorious Yorkshire countryside or make use of the blackout blinds if you're more of a cave sleeper.
In the morning head out and help yourself to some freshly laid eggs from the chicken coop and enjoy a truly organic breakfast before heading out to explore. There's a lovely walk through the woodland, a kitchen garden where you can pick seasonal produce and an outdoor pizza oven meaning you can make your own pizzas to enjoy with a cold beer.
We have plenty of parking and the grounds have direct footpath access through via private woodland to Aislaby Carr lane.
We love dogs and most guests bring one and they enjoy the access to 4 acres of private land which is secure at its perimeter. Outside your property there is a lawned garden for your private use which is open to the rest of our grounds including pathways, kitchen garden, cottage garden, beech tree field, woodland walks and the parking area for the property and outbuildings. We have chickens that will provide you with fresh eggs most days - we keep them locked in their run on check-in days if guests have a dog and thereafter generally let them roam free during the day on non-check-in days during day light hours. We have a friendly cockapoo called Toby and we are relaxed about him wandering around outside off lead.
You're perfectly placed to visit the North Yorkshire moors, Dalby Forest, York, Whitby, Scarborough and the market towns of Malton and the very pretty Helmsley. If you fancy eating out try the Beadlam Grange Farm shop and tea room and for a cosy pub meal the Blacksmith Arms at Lastingham is a brilliant Yorkshire pub with flat caps hanging from the ceiling.
For nights in there's a TV with free fibre broadband which has Netflix, Disney and Amazon Prime but if you want a break from electronics please take advantage of the view!
