The Horseshoe Mérida is a tranquil, light-filled historic home designed for relaxed days, long afternoons by the pool, and comfortable living in a peaceful residential neighbourhood that offers a more authentic side of Mérida. Behind traditional walls, soaring beamed ceilings, original tiled floors, lush gardens, and a spacious swimming pool create a private and welcoming retreat, while thoughtful comforts throughout make it easy to settle into the rhythm of the city.
The space
Carefully restored to preserve its original character, the house blends architectural details with modern living, while flowing indoor-outdoor spaces lend the home an inviting and understated atmosphere.
Two spacious bedrooms and seamless indoor-outdoor living make the house especially well suited to couples, friends, families, remote workers, or longer stays. The main bedroom opens directly onto the garden and pool area, while a freestanding bathtub framed by tropical plants offers a spa-like setting for unwinding. The second bedroom is tucked within the original part of the house for added privacy and includes its own sitting area, workspace, and private bathroom.
Outside, a generous six-metre swimming pool is complemented by shaded seating areas, a hammock, rooftop terrace, and outdoor dining for six guests beneath an antique French tiled roof — ideal for long breakfasts overlooking the garden, quiet afternoons in the hammock, and evenings on the rooftop terrace beneath Mérida’s pink skies.
The fully equipped kitchen invites guests to prepare local dishes at home, perhaps inspired by the pink cookbook, while complimentary locally sourced coffee adds to the easy pace of life within the house.
Altogether, The Horseshoe Mérida is a welcoming base from which to explore the beauty, flavours, and vibrancy of the Yucatán.

Families travelling with very young children may wish to note that the two bedrooms are positioned separately within the house. An inflatable bed can also be provided on request if helpful for younger guests.
As with many historic houses in tropical climates, The Horseshoe Mérida includes open-air spaces and lush gardens. The house is regularly fumigated and carefully maintained, though occasional insects can still be part of the local environment.
The swimming pool is not heated, though it benefits from direct sunlight throughout much of the day and is generally kept at a comfortable temperature. It is professionally cleaned once a week. As the pool is unfenced and the rooftop terrace is accessed via a spiral staircase, children must be supervised at all times.
The house is partially powered by solar energy, and we kindly encourage guests to switch off air conditioning and fans when leaving or when rooms are not being used.
Uber is inexpensive, reliable, and widely used throughout Mérida, making it easy to explore the city comfortably without a car.
