Antonio was extremely responsive and generous with his time- picking me up at the station and dropping me off, and giving me a lift to the supermarket and to the river beach as I do not have a car and have reduced mobility. For others with mobility issues, I would say that it is quite steep there (which they warned me about) however I did find a couple of nice walks that were doable for me. The nature is exceptionally beautiful: mists rolling over the river, birds of prey gliding overhead, birdsong, the scent of orange blossom… I also enjoyed making a fire in the wood burner in the evening. This is a convenient place to come from Porto as it is just a few minutes’ drive from the train station which is on a scenic route 1.5 hours from the city. Thanks so much for having me!

Gorgeous cottage and location is amazing. Douro Valley is one of the most special places in the world. History, wine and Port wine. We brought food and did our own thing. Location is good 30 min + to special places.

Where do I even start?! Staying at Maria's Casa do Rio felt like a magical home away from home. Maria and her sweet dogs gave us a warm welcome when we arrived and gave us a beautiful tour of the property with an overview of its history that you should not miss. She was very accommodating to our check-in time and sensitive to our plans during our stay, which were not many. Since we didn't have much planned for our spur-of-the-moment visit, we were delighted when Maria gave us many suggestions of activities on our own as well as ones with her such as a tour around the area, canoeing, hiking, yoga class, massage, cooking together and so much more. The charm and kind embrace by Maria was otherworldly and an experience in itself that we won't ever forget. If you have any reservations on booking your stay here, you shouldn't because you will not regret a single second at Casa do Rio. Every moment during our stay here is one we will treasure, and we'll be back to visit Maria and her Casa.

We had a wonderful stay. The location is beautiful and good for exploring nearby wine farms. The hosts are also very accomodating - we felt at home with them. We appreciated the extra touches like the coffee and bread they provided, a taste of the wine they produce at check-in and recommendations for nearby restaurants and sightseeing. The only downside was the nearby church bell that also rings at night, but the area is otherwise so peaceful that it did not bother us much. Would definitely recommend to others looking for a relaxing stay in the Douro region!

I went to spend the weekend with my boyfriend and we loved it! We took advantage of the space and all the trails nearby, we highly recommend it ☺️

It was 4 wonderful nights in this space as well. The whole experience, from before the booking, to the check-out was simple and with absolutely nothing to point out. From Mr. António, who from the first minute proved super available to answer questions and help in everything, to Isabel, who takes care of the house with extreme care, and who was an authentic sympathy. We were 4 adults and a little bigudo, and we had a great days of rest and peace, in a home and outdoor space extremely well cared for and with all amenities. We want to go back, no doubt!

Cannot say enough about this place, its everything it says and lots more. The ladies that service the property along with preparing breakfasts were simply awesome. Aurora's chocolate cake was a hit, and we had it for dessert and breakfast! The location and views are postcard perfect and that comes with some nervous driving to get there, but once you know the quirks really not that bad, just be careful. Highly recommending this to friends that are planning a trip to this beautiful part of the world.

beautiful location, surrounded by nature and amazing views (just like the photos). easy to find and check in and out, close to wine yards and great restaurants (always by car). if going with pets don't forget ticks repellent!

We had a wonderful stay with Carmo and Beto! They were exceptional hosts, always ready to help us with everything we needed, from firewood to information about the region. We had the privilege of attending the New Year's Eve dinner with the village community, an unforgettable and authentic experience that brought us even closer to the place and the people. Great accommodation, we had a great time at the house. A good location to make/visit nearby places. The house is even better than the listing photos. Breakfast is highly recommended.

We were surprised by the house, very well decorated and impeccably clean and organized. Located in a quiet location, ideal for spending a few days of rest. The kids had a great time in the pool and with the yard, and we were even able to pick fresh tomatoes from the garden! It was a very pleasant stay.

Great stay! The location of this accommodation is ideal, close to everything: restaurants, shops, public transport and main attractions. It was a real pleasure to be able to do anything on foot! Wow what a lovely hidden gem this was. Exceeded our expectations and the bed was quite possibly the most comfiest I've ever slept in. Location was perfect and peaceful. We loved everything about this quirky unique place.

The listing is beautiful and peaceful. Host was very collaborative and responsive. We used jacuzzi, the gas griller and the bikes freely. Overall, it was an amazing stay. My only suggestion for improvement would be to ensure the floor of the room is even.
