We loved staying at Sandy’s place - those views are some of the best in Sri Lanka! Watch out for the sunrises and moonrises from the balcony, both of which were stunning during our stay. Her place is a little out of town, which we loved to escape the chaos of Ella town. It felt super private and special. Sandy herself was the highlight of our stay though - a total privilege for us to celebrate Sinhalese new year. Sandy was so welcoming and generous and lovely to spend time with. Thank you, and hope you let us know when you visit London ❤️

A wonderful location, high in the mountains. We had a great view. High ceilings, lots of windows, nice curtains, wrap around balcony, it was just amazing. The hosts were so kind and provided delicious locally grown food. I would have liked to stay for a month! The road in had some bumpy sections but our tuktuk rental handled it fine. There were some roosters and dogs on the property but not near the balcony view room.

The house itself has been re-modeled by one of Sri Lanka's premier architects, C.Anjalendran, and that makes the house special. It's very open, overlooking the river, with antique furniture and lots of books. It's very civilised. You can walk in the small lanes in the neighbourhood, between the main road and the river. The hosts, Aftab & Anja, are very attentive, and will bake you excellent bread if you are nice to them. It's worth staying just for that. The other endless amusement is provided by the cat, which enjoys frolicking with the two younger dogs. Good thing cats have nine lives.

After Colombo, this was our first real place to stay in Sir Lanka. Our host made it very easy for us to arrive in Sir Lanka. He took a lot of time and even picked us up from Dambulla. He was available for any questions at any time and even assisted us with the planning. The rooms were exemplary clean and we enjoyed spending the morning and evening on the terrace (pleasant price). We would definitely come back. Tips for you: Make the ascent for the sunset on Pidurangala Rock at 4:30 pm at the latest (it accumulates at the end); for the Sigiriya/Lions rock I would schedule for the 2.5 hours; Spice Garden I would avoid, as it is unfortunately only a selling bag, instead of a possible interesting tour (pity, potential would have it otherwise...)

We have or stay in the open "cabin" upstairs. a fun experience rule for children. The address given is not correct but someone in the given place could immediately call Nandana. he knew it apparently and we were not the first to get to the wrong place. Nandana came within five minutes to pick us up with a jeep. It seems to be impossible to better indicate the address. it is the lizard safari lodge. Finally, they organized us at the last minute a delicious meal and organized a safari for the next day. Feel free to ask to be gathered with other people in the jeep. the family and children present in the host house gave a superb welcome for our children who no longer wanted to leave.

We’ve just left the treehouse chalet with the happiest of memories. The food was delicious (they fed our coeliac daughter incredibly well), the treehouse was gorgeous with views that are out of this world. The service and care was incredible. Aruns knowledge and passion for nature is amazing - he oozes love for what he is doing and passed it on to all of us. We swam in waterfalls, walked to the local village, saw the stars …. We were there for 4 nights - it went far too quickly. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in nature, calm surroundings to add this to their itinerary. You won’t regret it!

We had a wonderful time at Don’s place. The room was clean, spacious, and had hot water. Don was very friendly and even arranged a tuk-tuk for us. The lady taking care of the rooms was incredibly kind, and the breakfast was excellent. Don also informed us when the turtles came ashore, allowing us to book a guide through the tourist office. However, the experience was poorly organized, and the turtles were visibly stressed. While this is likely one of the better options along the coast, there is still too little awareness for wildlife protection. Apart from that, a highly recommended stay in a quiet location with a beautiful, uncrowded beach nearby!
