Kamesei Ryokan, quiet onsen inn, private budget rm
I had a lovely stay at Kamesei Ryoken. Thank you Tyler and Mari!

Modern Japanese Farmhouse Experience
A rural retreat, off the tourist path, but easily accessible by train from Tokyo. We were keen for some rural Japan after quite a few stops in urban centres. The house is in a quiet, unspoilt setting. You can do short walks from the house that can include views of Mount Fuji down the valley. There's other places you can pop into too, such as the Owl Cafe or the wonderful deli/shop at the petrol station up the road. The house itself has kept its rustic and traditional appearance and features, while also having very functional equipment, from Wifi to everything you'd need for cooking. Some great places to read and relax in, from the garden to by the wood burner. We did not have car which was fine - it's just 6 minutes by taxi from the station, but a car would allow you to explore further afield. Ryo the host was very helpful with answering questions rapidly and clearly. I would highly recommend!

Japanese-Style Room with Shared Bathroom
We loved our stay in a family room. We used the private onsen every day and used the public onsen once, both were amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we felt right at home. I loved the futons, the most comfortable bed since being in Japan. Plenty of parking, nice warm room. Would highly recommend

Japanese traditional house
This house was beautiful and felt so homely. The surrounding scenery was breathtaking and the whole town was idyllic. The service from Miwa and their mother was honestly fantastic, one of the best Air BnBs I have ever been too. This stay was what we needed after the busy cities. 100% recommend, my partner and I didn't want to leave. Would love to come back again.

Kashiwaya Ryokan Kaede
Quiet and peaceful location that’s close to Nakagomi station, the convenience store, and many small local shops. The family living there is quick to help if you need it. If you’re looking for a place to crash at night and cook in the morning and don’t mind the faint smell of tobacco smoke, would recommend in a heartbeat.

Kazeya Group1 Private Onsen & Quiet Hotel "Kazeya"
Very nice and comfortable room, buses come only 3 times a day but if you plan around them it can lead to the best private and relaxing place to stay

【Snow monkey area】Kaneki hotel
We had a lovely stay at Kaneki. They were expecting us and got welcomed right away. The place is a traditional Japanese Ryokan with a private Onsen. The room was nice, spacey and warm even though it was really cold outside, and all the personnel were really nice and helpful. I would definitely come back. Thanks for everything!!

Wu Lin 'an: Hundreds of people in the Hokkaido mountain range
Shintaro was a very friendly person. He explained the house and amenities in detail, and I was able to spend my time without any inconvenience. It was filled just by looking at the lovely garden. They also prepared homemade bread and blueberry jam for breakfast, which was very delicious. It was a very satisfying stay.

Twin/Large double bed room with shared facilities
Our stay at Abiya was very pleasant. We have met people from around the world, even a couple from Belgium where I have profound youth memories. Yoshi and Seongmin are excellent hosts who treated guests like family and looking constantly at our well being. It is definitely the place I will go back. Thanks Yoshi and Seongmin again and take care!

Yanagiya at castle town:private room A, 6 tatami
Guesthouse Yanagiya and the surrounding village is even more charming than the photos can express. Yukie is a very caring host, and she has created a space that invites its guests to interact in a comfortable setting. Rooms are simple, yet clean. The location is great for a relaxing getaway, and is about 1-1.5 hours ride via train to the Magome/Tsumago Nakasendo trail. While that trail is indeed worth the effort to travel to, Iwamura and the castle ruins are very beautiful, quaint, and way less busy than the Nakasendo trail. In the future, I would love to return!

Kashiwaya-ryokan Alps
I had a great night in this traditional inn. Extremely good value for the price and a large bedroom.

15 min Magome. Renovated tradi ryokan up to 7 ppl
Thank you for a wonderful stay! Your place was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described. We truly appreciated the thoughtful touches and the effort you put into making guests feel welcome. It made our trip all the more enjoyable. Wishing you all the best, and we hope to stay here again in the future!

[1 room plan] For 1-6 people, 100-year-old private home, Omiyado
5 of us stayed with Hiro and Chinami from New Year's Eve 2025 for 2 nights and had a wonderful experience. Their place is a well maintained 100 year old Japanese house in the countryside but close to lots of local amenities. As we were staying over New Year's I was worried as to what would be open but Hiro was very helpful and proactive sending me information about the local onsens and supermarkets and the holiday opening times. The room was clean and spacious and the house was very clean. Even though we stayed in the middle of winter the house was well heated. There was also good parking which was easy to find. We went skiing in Sugadaira and found this location very convenient. I would recommend this location for anybody wanting an authentic Japanese experience in a great location.

Double bed room(Single use) with shared facilities
I stayed here for 7 nights for and it was a very special white Christmas! Seongmi and Yoshi are really nice hosts, and made sure I was comfortable. It was so nice getting to know them and having breakfast every morning with other guests, who were also really nice. Seongmi cooked us all a delicious Korean pancake dinner and Yoshi served on Christmas. Amazing experience. The room and over all house was super cozy. I enjoyed reading and writing in the office room space. My room had shared a bathroom and shower, but no one ever used it the same time as I did so it was as if I had it to myself. It was perfect amount of privacy but also social getting to know other lovely guests there. They have connections with onsens nearby which I highly recommend. The hosts were also very helpful with arranging my heavy luggage to be delivered to my next location so I didn’t have to worry about it traveling to my next destination. It really felt like home and I will be back!

Hotel cloth Kannon Onsen (8 tatami Japanese room) 1 ~ 3 people
Amazing place to stay. The rooms are warm and cozy, with windows that let in sun and can be opened on warm days. The onsen was very relaxing and clean. Hosts were amazingly welcoming and helpful. Really felt taken care of and they looked out for us. Not too many things to do directly around the ryokan, however that was perfectly fine for us and we spent most of our time comfortably in our room
