Kamesei Ryokan, quiet onsen inn, private budget rm

HeidiRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Tyler was extremely responsive - even with train route suggestions for getting to Kamesei Ryokan which proved very helpful. We had a peaceful and relaxing stay in the middle of a long trip which was wonderful. We loved soaking in the various baths and the food was delicious.. Tyler and Mari were wonderful hosts!

Modern Japanese Farmhouse Experience

AdamRating, 5 stars1 month ago
A rural retreat, off the tourist path, but easily accessible by train from Tokyo. We were keen for some rural Japan after quite a few stops in urban centres. The house is in a quiet, unspoilt setting. You can do short walks from the house that can include views of Mount Fuji down the valley. There's other places you can pop into too, such as the Owl Cafe or the wonderful deli/shop at the petrol station up the road. The house itself has kept its rustic and traditional appearance and features, while also having very functional equipment, from Wifi to everything you'd need for cooking. Some great places to read and relax in, from the garden to by the wood burner. We did not have car which was fine - it's just 6 minutes by taxi from the station, but a car would allow you to explore further afield. Ryo the host was very helpful with answering questions rapidly and clearly. I would highly recommend!

Lovely ryokan with spectacular views at the base of Mt. Myoko. Very peaceful and relaxing stay. Friendly, helpful staff. Woke up to the sun rising over the mountains Quick train and bus ride to Tsubame onsen and the Mt. Myoko trail, plenty of ski areas around. Great place to stay if you're looking to Ski and/or hike around Mt. Myoko.

Japanese traditional house

TheoRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Miwa's place is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Japan's megacities. The house and neighborhood genuinely make you slow down and relax as you enjoy the slower pace of the countryside. Miwa and her mother were responsive and incredibly helpful. They prepared a book for you detailing nearby recommendations on things to do and places to eat. The house is comfortable and the amenities are generous. I highly recommend staying here if you would like to slow down a little bit and relax. Miwa's house is also conveniently located near some of the post towns of the Nakasendo trail like Magomejuku and Tsumagojuku.

[Private room]Tatami room in KOISHIYA RYOKAN

MattRating, 5 stars11 months ago
A great stay at such an old and beautiful ryokan. It was the perfect location in Shibu Onsen and the staff were fantastic with providing extra information. The tatami beds were very comfortable, even as a westerner who has had spinal surgery. I would definitely recommend staying here when coming to the Nagano region.

Kashiwaya Ryokan Kaede

AlexanderRating, 5 stars15 months ago
Quiet and peaceful location that’s close to Nakagomi station, the convenience store, and many small local shops. The family living there is quick to help if you need it. If you’re looking for a place to crash at night and cook in the morning and don’t mind the faint smell of tobacco smoke, would recommend in a heartbeat.

Yanagiya at castle town:private room A, 6 tatami

ElliottRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Guesthouse Yanagiya and the surrounding village is even more charming than the photos can express. Yukie is a very caring host, and she has created a space that invites its guests to interact in a comfortable setting. Rooms are simple, yet clean. The location is great for a relaxing getaway, and is about 1-1.5 hours ride via train to the Magome/Tsumago Nakasendo trail. While that trail is indeed worth the effort to travel to, Iwamura and the castle ruins are very beautiful, quaint, and way less busy than the Nakasendo trail. In the future, I would love to return!

15 min Magome. Renovated tradi ryokan up to 7 ppl

MelissaRating, 5 stars8 months ago
This modern Ryokan was a perfect place to stay in Nakatsugawa. Very convenient being 2 mins walk from the train station, and the start of the nakesando trail. The ryokan is spotlessly clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. The tatami bedrooms are simple and comfortable. The social are in the lobby is a great place to chat, have a drink, have breakfast and plan your nakesando walk.

Double bed room(Single use) with shared facilities

LeeRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Very pleasant stay at Yoshi and Seongmi’s inn. Everything was clean with a soothing aesthetic throughout and specially sourced ingredients at breakfast. The town itself is a great base for activities. For example, I took the train to Obuse to visit the Hokusai Museum in the morning and returned for snow monkeys midday. Walked back from the snow monkey park through vintage Shibu onsen town and enjoyed a Yamanouchi onsen on a rooftop at sunset. A peak experience!

Kazeya Group1 Private Onsen & Quiet Hotel "Kazeya"

AnneRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The real natural hot spring (onsen) bath was really great! The bath areas were much better than we expected. The water quality is in a class of its own, and it flows straight from the hot springs, contains a wealth of minerals. An authentic and classic Japanese onsen inn, where a Hida bull dinner and local breakfast were also first-class. We drove our own car to the property, and the trip from Kyoto to Takayama to Onsen Spa in the snowfall was a great and memorable experience. The scenery was breathtakingly rugged and serpentine roads for a Finnish rally racing driver! It would be great to get here again! The staff was friendly and the inn was so peaceful that even though it was sold full, you could always bathe completely on your own. The caving bath on the women's side was beautiful.

Wu Lin 'an: Hundreds of people in the Hokkaido mountain range

YukiRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
I used it with 6 people with my friends I was worried that it might be cold when I used it in December, but it was very comfortable with a stove and floor heating. At night, there was a large supermarket about 10 minutes by car, and it was very delicious to shop there and do a pot. There are no restaurants in the neighborhood, but it was a difficult experience to enclose a pot with a beautiful Japanese house.

Hotel cloth Kannon Onsen (8 tatami Japanese room) 1 ~ 3 people

KodaRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Amazing place to stay. The rooms are warm and cozy, with windows that let in sun and can be opened on warm days. The onsen was very relaxing and clean. Hosts were amazingly welcoming and helpful. Really felt taken care of and they looked out for us. Not too many things to do directly around the ryokan, however that was perfectly fine for us and we spent most of our time comfortably in our room
