Welcome to our Funky Farmhouse! We welcome anyone who wants to enjoy what western Maine has to offer at any time of the year.
This 5 bed/2 bath antique home sleeps up to 14 people.
We are located between Sunday River (20 mins away) and Black Mountain of Maine (15 mins away).
The space
The price you see is our best available. We often update rates with discounts, and those discounts are available to anyone when they book!
Like most old homes, the floors in this 1863 farmhouse are creaky and uneven. There isn't a light switch in the whole place that's in the right spot. Despite us doubling the amount of outlets, you will probably still not be satisfied. But this house has so much soul, and we think you will love her as much as we do!
You enter the property from the side door (key pad for contactless check-in), which brings you into the mudroom. There is plenty of space here to unload gear, including ski storage on mounted racks. The laundry room (and its motion sensor light) is right next to the entry and has machines for you to use. You'll find laundry soap, basic cleaning supplies, and extra paper products there. The kitchen is stocked with the tools you need to cook on the stove, bake in the oven, or use the seasonal grill. Other rooms downstairs include a full bath with tub-shower combo; a living room with large L-shaped couch; a small dining room that seats 4 and has an antique built-in hutch that houses glassware for cocktails; and a large dining room with a decorative fireplace, and a large, hand-made hacienda that seats 10 (please be gentle with her!).
Bedrooms are located on both levels. Downstairs, you will find the large bedroom, which has a queen bed and two twin beds. It also has its own entertainment area with a couch, TV, reading areas, and table. French doors lead out of this room to a simple patio where the grill is. There is one additional bedroom downstairs that has a full-sized (double) bed. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms and one full bath with a shower-tub combo. The gable bedroom is spacious and has a king-sized bed, TV, as well as a chair-sized futon that can be used to lounge or pulled out so a kid could take a nap on it. A second sizeable bedroom has one queen-sized bed and a trundle bed that has two twin-sized mattresses, a large closet, and TV. You can find a pack-n-play in this closet. The last bedroom upstairs is the smallest, but it is cozy with a full-sized (double) bed. This room does not have a closet, so you may need to share with the big bedroom. However, it has the best view of the night sky and the mountain behind the house. Extra linens and blankets are in each bedroom, and you can find them in trunks, under-bed boxes, or in the closets (feel free to look around).
We do not have central air conditioning, but the three upstairs bedrooms have a window AC unit that we install seasonally.
You will have access to all the main parts of the house and grounds. The only parts we ask guests to avoid are the attics (unfinished), basement (unfinished), the utility closet in the small bedroom upstairs (locked), and one storage closet in the mudroom downstairs (locked). These just house utilities and our cleaning supplies. There is a 2 car garage that we use for winter storage, so that's not available at this time.
A friendly reminder that we are no smoking or vaping (including the porch), no animals (we keep things allergen-free for all of our guests' comfort), and no parties.
Finally, there are real farm animals that live close by the house. Their stables are not located near the house, so they should generally not disturb anyone or impact anyone with allergies. However, you may hear dogs, horses, and/or pigs, especially during feeding time. Several neighbors have chickens, including a few roosters, though crowing is minimal. You will usually hear church bells on Sunday morning. The house is located on a main road, and logging trucks do pass by regularly. Thankfully the speed limit in our village is 30mph, but there are earplugs in the bathrooms and also white noise machines in the bedrooms for borrowing if needed.
Guest access
You whole house except for a few storage areas (which are marked and/or locked).
You have your own private backyard (partially fenced) with seasonal grill and fire pit.
You also have direct access to local snowmobile trails (ITS 82) from the yard. The home sits on a larger parcel of 100+ wooded acres that are partially shared with farm animals, but you are welcome to use the woods too!
Other things to note
We do share the driveway with the neighboring church and the house out back, so we will guide you where to park. Please don't block the driveway!
