In Shirley, steps from downtown
About a 3-min walk to antique shops and a museum in historic downtown Shirley
A restored Dogtrot from 1910
A 1910 Dogtrot home filled with period antiques and themed rooms across a full acre
Charming, clean, and worth revisiting
Guests describe it as clean, comfortable, and full of charm, with many planning return visits
Built in 1910, you'll go back in time when you step foot one of the few Dogtrots still standing in Arkansas. Newly restored, it was originally designed w/ open-ended passage that runs through the center of a house, flanked by two enclosed living spaces. This living museum takes you through many decades of the 20th century. Get a taste of early country living with updated comforts. Home sits on 1 acre of land w/ views of the Ozarks.
The space
When the house was built, there was no such thing as indoor plumbing or air conditioning. Electricity was also added at a later date. The design of the house was intended to be a wind tunnel to heat/cool the house. You open both porch doors, windows, etc. and allow for the natural air to flow in throughout the house. We added the first HVAC in the house after we purchased it. Plumbing was added sometime last century so be aware when booking this home, the bathroom is no where near the bedrooms. All wet areas are grouped in the back of the house. The bedrooms are on the north side of the house and the living areas are on the south side with the Dogtrot enclosed hallway running between them.
The big bedroom has a king bed and couch (w/ TV), the smaller room has two twin beds. We do have a blow up mattress for anyone needing an extra place to sleep.
The house may be old, but modern amenities abound in this unique rental. High speed WiFi, two TV's, fully stocked kitchen supplies, antique tub with shower, dedicated office and brand new HVAC.
Outside, enjoy our quaint courtyard with firepit, covered parking, charcoal grill and yard games including croque, bocci ball, frisbee, cornhole and others.
Enjoy porch sittin' ? Well, we have three porches to choose from! Two are screened in and the front porch is HUGE!
The house is a three minute walk to the antique shops and museum in the Historic Shirley Downtown and a five minute walk to the historic Cottrell-Wilson Hiking Trail. The city park, river access, historic jail and train bridge are all within a ten minute walk.
Kayaking, Fishing, Swimming, Hiking, ATV riding and Golf are all activities within Shirley and Fairfield Bay Area!
Laundry room is on property
Pets are allowed but we charge a $30 pet fee. Please keep pets OFF the furniture. The house is full of antiques, so we allow dogs under 20 lbs.
There are two security cameras on the shed. One faces the carport and the other faces the side yard.
Guest access
The house sits on a one acre lot that is completely bordered by a street. So you'll have the entire city block of lawn to play in!
