Extreme winter weather
When the temperature is forecast to drop below 0°C we will need to turn the water off to the hut and drain them before the temperature drops below freezing to prevent the water pipes from busting and damaging the hut’s pipes and boiler. The water will be restored once the ground temperature is above 2°C and the water has thawed / is flowing in the underground water pipes. Drinking water will be provided in the huts during these periods. We will contact you before your stay when cold weather is forecast resulting potentially in the water being turned off for any part of your stay to offer the option to change your dates for your stay.
Extreme hot weather
When daytime temperatures are above 27°C the hut can become rather uncomfortable inside if shut up all day.
To keep the hut cool close the black out blind when away from the hut.
If based at the hut during the day keep the top of stable door and a window(s) open for the air to circulate then once the temperature outside start to rise close the windows and if needed the top stable door to keep out the heat with the blinds closed. You may wish to pack a fan or cooling towel to help keep you cool during the hotter weather.
In the evening the heat quickly leaves the hut if the windows and or door are open.
Please be aware if leave lights in inside the hut with windows and or door open and blinds up insects will enter the hut. If this happens open the door, windows and blinds shut off the inside lights and turn on the outside light for 10 minutes. The dust buster under the sink can be used to capture any remaining insects. Insects have only been an issue one time as guests left lights on inside the hut while sitting outside all evening and were surprised to find flying insects in the hut when went back inside the hut.
Location
Unfortunately, insects in the countryside are common and our shepherds hut is located on a working farm in the Wye Valley and has countryside smells, sounds, insects and other wildlife which can be prolific at certain times of the year.
