Bungalow #9 was built in 1928 as one of 9 cottages to house Bureau of Reclamation employees who were building the Owyhee Dam. During the Project this site was its own little community w/ housing, a store, school, post office, restaurant, movie theater & more.
In 2001 the cottage was initially renovated to become a rental for the public, since that time their has been upgrades including a full remodel in the spring of 2025 to keep it a place where our guests can enjoy the beautiful Owyhee River.
The space
This charming cabin, built in the late 1920s, has a unique layout with just one bathroom located in the center of the home. While it comfortably sleeps up to 7 guests, please keep in mind that everyone will be sharing the same bathroom, so privacy may be limited. The cabin includes two bedrooms—one with a queen and full bed, and another with two twin beds—plus a cozy living room featuring a queen pullout sofa. It’s the perfect place for families or small groups to enjoy a comfortable stay together in the quant Owyhee Canyon.
No pets allowed inside this cabin. Service animals must be pre-approved and meet Oregon’s definition of a trained dog (or miniature horse) that performs specific tasks for a person with a disability—emotional support animals aren’t considered service animals.
Guest access
The Bungalow is located just outside a restricted area of the Owyhee Dam Compound; You will notice two gates that says "STOP" and the two signs that say "NOTICE - RESTRICTED AREA AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY" beyond this point.
Please do not cross the fencing & gates beyond these signs.
You are permitted to occupy the grounds that surround the Bungalow only; the facility beyond the fence is restricted, except for the Visitors Center, to speak to Dam personnel and/or during an emergency.
All guests are encouraged to use the river trail for access to the river above the facility and to stay near the high water mark throughout the facility. Use of facility road is for authorized personnel and/or an emergency.
There is no cell phone service in the canyon. If you need to make a phone call, WiFi service can be used at the Visitor Center & in the cabin with your smartphone. If it is an emergency the Dam office phone may be used for an "Emergency Only".
