A 4 bedroom Grade II Listed cottage located in a small rural hamlet in the Essex countryside, perfect for relaxing with family and friends. This home has plenty of character with exposed beams throughout and a large fireplace, perfect for those colder winter nights. Outside, there is a large garden and a paved terrace making this the perfect space for summer evenings. Make the most of the local walking and bike routes with picturesque views or take a drive to visit one of the local villages.

The space
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Essex countryside, just moments from the charming village of Great Bardfield, this beautifully restored cottage offers the perfect countryside escape for up to eight guests. Combining traditional character with stylish modern comforts, the property has been thoughtfully designed to create a warm, welcoming, and luxurious retreat for families, friends, or special occasions.

Inside, the cottage is full of charm and character, featuring cosy living spaces, exposed traditional details, and carefully curated interiors throughout. The inviting living area provides the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the surrounding countryside, while the spacious modern kitchen is fully equipped for entertaining, complete with a large central island, integrated twin ovens, electric hob, and an elegant cream-coloured Aga that adds to the cottage’s timeless charm. Please note that the Aga is decorative only.

The property comfortably accommodates eight guests across four beautifully appointed bedrooms. Hidden away off the living area, a concealed staircase leads to a private double bedroom with its own dressing area, creating a wonderfully tucked-away retreat. Upstairs, the impressive master suite features vaulted ceilings, an en-suite bathroom, and a striking floor-to-ceiling triangular window that frames uninterrupted panoramic views across the rolling Essex countryside. Two further double bedrooms and a stylish family bathroom — complete with a luxurious freestanding bath — complete the first floor.

Outside, the cottage truly comes into its own. Guests can unwind in the private four-person hot tub, dine alfresco on the patio with the BBQ, or simply soak up the peaceful surroundings of the wrap-around gardens and neighbouring open fields. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet morning coffee overlooking the countryside or relaxing beneath the stars in the evening, the outdoor space offers a truly tranquil setting.

While the cottage has been modernised throughout, it still retains many of its original features and period charm. As part of its character, some rooms include charming low ceilings and traditional cottage proportions.

Guests will enjoy exclusive access to the entire property, including a spacious private parking area. The expansive front and rear gardens provide the perfect space to relax and unwind, featuring a luxury 4-person hot tub, BBQ area, and outdoor garden games for all to enjoy.

The nearest village of Great Bardfield is a short 5 minute drive away where you will find 2 pubs, a tearoom and a Co-Op. An 8 minute drive will take you to the village of Finchingfield, known as the most pictured village in England and a hotspot for cyclists. Old Cottage is a 12 minute drive from Great Dunmow, a 20 minute drive from Stansted Airport, and 20 minutes from Braintree where there is a train station with regular trains to London Liverpool Street.
