The space
Welcome to our little slice of historic heaven, Moss & Fern! Our updated 1-bedroom, 1-bath cottage in the Tuscawilla Historic District has been in our family for many years, and with the support of our incredible historic neighborhood, we’ve lovingly and painstakingly restored it with care taken to preserving its original charm while adding the modern touches we’ve all come to expect. It’s long been a peaceful getaway for our family & friends, and now we’re so excited to share this best-kept secret with travelers from all over the world.
Our home away from home includes a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare meals at home, along with a cozy living room featuring a large smart TV for your favorite shows or movie nights. You’ll also find a collection of board games for unwinding after a day at WEC (15 minutes), HITS (20 minutes), or exploring the local springs and scenic trails of North Central Florida. The bedroom features a plush queen bed and TV, offering a private and restful space to recharge. The bathroom has been fully updated with new fixtures and a clean, timeless design. We have always enjoyed the amazing water pressure in the updated shower!
The peaceful yard is filled with native plants, mature trees, and often visited by our friendly porch cats which call the property home. Family & friends alike have always told us how much they love the calming energy of the property. We enjoy the rare combination of peace and privacy while still being in the heart of town.
We’re within easy walking distance to so many local favorites. Start your morning with a stroll around the lake at nearby Tuscawilla Art Park. For lunch, walk to The Depot on Magnolia and enjoy elevated Southern cuisine from some of Ocala’s top restaurateurs. In the evening, cross the street to Midtown Station to sample local brews, hear live music, and experience the Food Network-featured Big Lee’s BBQ.
Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Magnolia Art Xchange, located in the beautifully restored historic train depot just down the street. Explore rotating exhibits and meet Ocala’s growing community of working artists.
Nature lovers can make the quick drive to Silver Springs State Park, home of the famous glass-bottom boats and a filming location for classic films like Tarzan and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Guests traveling with boats, kayaks, or other outdoor gear will appreciate the ample space on the property for storage and parking.
Moss & Fern is perfect for couples, equestrians, traveling professionals, and especially medical workers on assignment. We’re just 5 minutes from both HCA and AdventHealth Ocala, and we’ve had the pleasure of hosting several wonderful travel nurses who loved the quiet, central location and cozy home base.
Our family has called Ocala home for many years, and we’re always happy to share local recommendations and stories with fellow history lovers who are curious about the charm and character of our town.
