Travel back to the 1940's and experience the period in a historical river town in Western, PA. This fully restored house was a primary film location for Maria's Lovers, a post WWII period film (released in 1984). The parlor, dining room, kitchen, porches, and bedrooms are completely decorated in fine antiques and movie memorabilia. Also enjoy spectacular views of the river, brand new bathrooms, utilities, WiFi, quality Purple mattresses and linens, and all the Brownsville's historic venues.

The space
Built in 1910, this home still has the wood siding, pocket doors, trim moldings, and other features original to the house. It stands proudly overlooking the historical district of Brownsville, PA, a notable river town on the Monongahela River. The spectacular views can be taken in all day long and are particularly nice as the sun sets over the river. Beyond the views, the space is truly unique with two porches (front) and a closed in porch on the side facing the river. Each room as a unique fire place, exposed brick in many common areas, large parlor, dinning, and sleeping rooms. A secret passage takes you to the attic where a fun living space/game room awaits you and your guests. The entire house is decorated and furnished in 1940's or earlier antiques transporting you back in time.

The house is also famous as a shooting location for the film, Maria's Lovers. The 1940's décor is consistent with the time period of the movie which is about a WWII POW returning from Japan. One bedroom has been restored to the what it looked like in the movie and the numerous memorabilia items are to be found throughout the home. We continue to acquire items from local residents that participated in the making of the movie and other collaborators to tell the story of the three months that Cannon Production occupied Brownsville during the filming.

Neighborhood highlights

Brownsville is one of the most historic river towns in the Pittsburgh area. Like many small river towns it has faced tough times. However Brownsville revitalization is on the up swing with new restaurants, businesses and other initiatives are bring it back to life and is a very safe area. The town has significant history including, but not limited to the National highway (runs through town), the first cast Iron bridge ever built in the US, Nemacolin Castle, many historical churches, original 50's dinner, river Warf, and many museums and antique shops.

The topography of western PA is very hilly and no different in Brownsville as it is located in a river valley. The house is located on a hill overlooking the town and river and thus the parking area is on a slope and is not completely flat. Given this dynamic, guests with mobility limitations need to take extra caution.
