Set on 2.6 acres, this log cabin is a lived-in desert library. Inside, limewashed walls, dark woods, warm brass, woven rugs, shelves of books, a piano, and collected pieces create a stay rooted in texture and layered history. Nothing commercial, nothing overdone. Mornings bring quail and afternoons bring deer, giving the place a storybook feel. Evenings end around the fire pit with distant cliff views. Minutes from trails and town, in a quiet neighborhood where neighbors are part of the charm.

This cabin is for the traveler who notices things. The one who picks up a book left on a shelf and reads the first page. Who runs a hand along a worn brass handle and wonders where it came from. Who feels the difference between a room that was decorated and a room that was lived into. If that's you, you're in the right place.

This cabin took two years to become. The limewash on the walls was applied by hand, coat by coat, and will continue to shift with light and time. The unlacquered brass will patina. The rugs, some late 1800s, some early 1900s, have already traveled through the desert trade routes that made them and are still going. Nothing here was bought to fill a space.
We named it the library cabin because of the books, yes, but also because of what a library represents.
Something physical in a world that increasingly isn't.
You can hold a cassette here, put a record on, run your hand along a rug that's older than anyone in the room. The leather Chesterfield sofa, the dark woods, the shelves packed with books from a personal collection, it all adds up to a place that has weight. That's not nostalgia. That's just something worth protecting.
There's an uncommon amount of textile in this cabin, woven, knotted, hung, and laid, collected from different corners of the world over many years. The Mali cloth on the bedroom wall came from West Africa. The brass toilet paper holder from Morocco. The bird hook in the bathroom from India. The walnut kitchen shelves started as raw slabs chosen from a craftsman's stock at the Long Beach harbor, then came to the cabin to be cut, sanded, and sealed. The Zia tile backsplash was hand-chiseled in Morocco and then hand-laid by us in Kanab, each trapezoid piece slightly different from the last. The piano was rescued from a trailer left out in the rain. These things were collected slowly, from places and people with stories. They didn't arrive together in a Target or Ikea box.
There is a small television, though the cassettes, records, and books tend to win.
Evenings here, and frankly all day, slow down on their own. The gas stove throws a warm glow across the room. The covered porch catches the last of the afternoon light. When the sun drops behind the cliffs the fire pit draws you out into the sage and the quiet, and sometimes the sound of neighborhood kids on a trampoline drifting over, which is honestly kind of charming.
Mornings bring the quail. Afternoons, the deer, sometimes close enough that you stop whatever you're doing just to watch.
This is a place that rewards the kind of guest who actually unpacks.

Other things to note
A few things worth knowing before you arrive.
The cabin sits back from the street but is on an active neighborhood road with regular through traffic. The property across the street belongs to a neighbor who keeps goats, a couple of horses, and some very adorable corgis.
The limewash walls are one of the most beautiful features of the cabin and also one of the most delicate. Please avoid scrubbing or applying any products directly to the walls.
The kitchen countertops are stained concrete. We've stocked organic stone safe cleaning products for your use. Please avoid harsh chemicals or anything abrasive.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
