You won't have that issue :)
GUEST ACCESS:
- Check in time 4:00PM
- Check out time 10:00AM
- Respect:
Our neighbors are very nice folks, and we enjoy the quiet and harmonious environment together. Please do not party and/or cause loud noises to help us maintain this peaceful environment. This home is very loved. Please treat it with respect, and it will respect you. 9pm quiet hours in the desert! This is strictly enforced. If you foresee this being a problem for you, we'd kindly ask that you please consider another home. We take great care in being respectful to our neighbors.
- Please Note:
This house is almost entirely off-grid. If you see yourself as someone that's trying to take climate change into your own hands, consider this a green vacation. Electric is run on solar and wind, water comes from a well, and heat is from propane, although we are in the process of upgrading to run entirely off electric. Please be mindful of your AC usage and do not crank it extremely low, or leave doors and/or windows open while it's running. Doing so can cause the AC condenser motor to freeze, leaving you without any AC for multiple days, while it thaws out.
- Horses:
The property features 4 horse stables which are utilized from time to time by local horse owners in the area. Feel free to inquire to ask if horses will be on the property during your stay or if you'd like to bring your own horse onto the property.
- Septic Tank Notice:
Desert homes use septic tanks for sewage. Please only flush toilet paper in the toilets. Throw wipes or feminine products in the garbage by the toilet. Following these guidelines will help you avoid plumbing issues during your stay and a charge against your deposit, should an issue occur from doing so.
- Photo & Video Shoots:
Commercial photo and video shoots at Rancho El Dorado are expressly prohibited without a permit per the County of San Bernardino's short-term rental ordinance. If you are interested in scheduling a photo/video shoot, please inquire, and we can apply for a special use permit from the County for such an event. Please note, you will have to apply for a permit yourself as well, and the shoot would only be allowed if we receive the County's approval. Additional fees may apply.
- Parking:
The County permits us to host five total vehicles on the property. The County also requires us to have all vehicles parked in the wrap-around driveway, in front of the garage. The garage is not available for guest use. PLEASE NOTE: the driveway is a horseshoe driveway. This means you do NOT need to reverse down the driveway to get out. Instead, simply turn towards the right side of the garage, and follow the rest of the driveway back out. There is a small brick wall that is hard to see when backing out, so in order to avoid crashing into it, please use the round-about!
- Trash Disposal:
You will find trash bags in the cabinet under the sink of the kitchen. When the trashcan is full, please remove the trash bag and take it to the dumpster in front of the house, to the right of the garage. Trash gets picked up by the city every Friday.
- Dishes:
Please wash your dishes before you leave, no need to put them away, they can be left in the drying racks!
- Extra Guests:
We do not allow unauthorized guests to sleep at the house. Our county does not allow us to host events at the house without a conditional use permit, so we cannot allow additional visitors and cars on the property at any point in the day unless otherwise approved in writing by the hosts.
- Parties or Events:
We do not allow guests to throw parties or events in our home. Quiet Hours in the neighborhood start at 9pm. Again, this will be strictly enforced. If you're looking to party or consistently make loud noise, this will not be the house for your group.
- Smoking:
The home is a non-smoking environment. Please smoke outside and dispose of your cigarettes in the trash. We appreciate your cooperation!
- Pets:
To preserve the integrity of our home and to avoid issues for guests who may have allergies, we unfortunately do not allow pets at our property. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for respecting that rule.
- Broken Items:
If, for any reason, you break an item during your stay, please let us know. We understand that accidents happen, but in order for me to fix or replace something for a future guest to enjoy, we will need to know that it is broken. We appreciate your honesty, it will be returned with kindness.
- Stains / Spills:
To protect the beautiful white couch, we kindly ask that you please do not eat or drink on the couch. If there is a situation where an accident does happen, please do not panic! We've got you covered with instructions for how to quickly fix the issue to limit serious damage. Should a stain occur, please first call me (doesn't matter the time of day, I will answer you). I can provide you with the best advice based upon what the nature of the spill or stain is, and where it is located. As a general rule of thumb, always blot, don't scrub. There is stain removing spray located under the sink, and also a steam cleaning vacuum for upholstery in the hallway closet located near the three bedrooms on the left side of the home. Please only use a cap's worth of liquid soap in the machine. That will be plenty. The couch cushion covers are also removable and machine washable. Please do NOT use bleach and please do NOT put in the dryer. Air drying is best to ensure they do not shrink, or make any stain permanent. Thank you!
- Outdoor Jacuzzi:
Please make sure to close the lid to the jacuzzi whenever it is not being used, and add a spa oxidizing shock tab to keep the water clean after each use. There are straps with clips that allow it to stay firmly shut, in the event there is a wind storm. Please take showers before each use. This will keep the water in clean condition for the duration of your stay. No eating or drinking during use. If we find the spa water to be extremely low, or in a highly dirty condition upon your departure, a $120 charge will be applied to your stay, in order to fully drain and refill the spa. Please be mindful to take good care of it and you will not incur any issues.
- Fireplace:
There is an indoor fireplace in the living room, if you would like to use it, please plan to bring your own firewood and make sure the flute is open and fan is on, via the switch on the side wall.
- Fires in General:
Please do NOT for ANY REASON start a fire anywhere on the property. The desert is VERY dry and fires can go up in an INSTANT. The area is also very windy and as such fires can travel at incredible speeds here. For the safety of both yourself and everyone in this neighborhood around you, please do not start any fires during your stay. You do not want to be the person who started a forest fire... we can assure you of that.
- Washer & Dryer:
We provide a washer and dryer and provide the detergent. If you need it, please use it.
- First Aid & Fire Extinguisher:
There are many spiny plants in the desert, please be mindful and take necessary precautions! Bring shoes to slip on and off between the pool and hot tub –don't attempt to walk barefoot in the desert! If you are accidentally injured we have first aid in the kitchen under the sink and a fire extinguisher in the office room, as well as next to the fire place, and by outdoor BBQ grill.
- Bedding:
All beds and pillows are covered with bedbug protectors as well as an additional cover for water spills in order to keep your sleeping environment clean. The mattresses were brought brand new, and immediately covered with mattress protectors for safety. With the exception of the primary bedroom, the mattresses in the home are ultra comfy memory foam beds. The primary bedroom mattress is equally comfy, but just a spring-style mattress.
- Wildlife:
There is a good deal of cactus around the area. For this reason. ALWAYS wear closed toed shoes outside. Do not touch the cactus, do not water the cactus. They are on a scheduled water maintenance program. Closed toed shoes are also especially important around the property because during certain times of year, there are also scorpions and tarantulas in the desert. Do yourself a favor and protect those feet! Additionally, it's important to always keep your eyes peeled for snakes (I’ve yet to see any on the property, but it's best to be careful). Mostly there are a lot of lizards, rabbits, mice, and squirrels. You may also see or hear some coyotes. Since they are present in the area, it's important to never leave any small children (or animals - although they are not allowed at this property) unattended.
Guest access
You will have access to the entire home. Should you have any questions during your stay, you are welcome to reach out to me at any time :)
Other things to note
Our goal to keep this home in tip-top shape so we are firm on our house rules.
This is a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, no music or loud voices outdoors after 9 pm. Please read the house rules before booking.
Should you wish to heat the pool during your stay, please note there will be an additional daily charge for reimbursement of the propane required to heat it. Please feel free to inquire for more details.
Please note, the pool needs to be maintained twice a week, so a pool cleaner may come by to maintain the pool during your stay. The normal schedule is around 11am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, although it’s possible that the schedule may change on occasion. Landscapers are scheduled to come between bookings, however on occasion (especially during high season) they may need to come during times when we have guests in the house. They have been instructed to do their best not to bother any guests, and to work as efficiently as possible. Thank you for understanding.

• Stroll around Pioneertown a movie-set town built by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry as a place not only to make westerns, but also as a place for back-lot people to live. This is not a touristy town. Sat & Sun afternoon from fall to spring local dress up & have a shootout.

• Joshua Tree Excursions will create a private, customized excursion in JTNP for you! Desert Adventure Eco-Jeep Tour – they also have hiking and sightseeing guides.
• Doing YOGA, for one!! Pick from a variety of classes at Instant Karma.
• Artist Noah Purifoy has created a wondrous Desert Sculpture world out on the Mesa. This is truly a unique desert experience.

• For those seeking a truly unique experience, head out to the mysterious Integratron to get a Sound Bath – reservations required, and visit nearby Giant Rock (Split Rock).
• Visit Gubler’s Orchid Farm to meet carnivorous plants and even ship some of the exotica home.

• Peruse the local “star sites” (as in rock n’ roll). The Harmony Motel where U2 did the Joshua Tree album is on 29 Palms Hwy on your right as you are going from here into 29 Palms. Watch for murals in 29 Palms. The other place of pilgrimage is the Joshua Tree Inn where Gram Parsons did himself in and Cap Rock, where his ashes were spread. And you never know who might show up at Pappy’s!
• For real Stars, shooting stars, constellations the Moon and the Milky Way just turn your gaze upward, from wherever you are! You can use the telescope we keep at the property or attend a star party with Coyote Telescope and Sky’s The Limit Observatory, Or stay in and get a Nightsky Narration on site!
• The Joshua Tree Railroad Museum just around the way.

What is there to do in Joshua Tree?
• Check out the Joshua Tree Farmer’s Market, 8 a.m. ‘til noon Saturday’s at Tortoise Island. Shop the endless Thrift stores (Angel View in the Vons shopping center for one) and then there are the Antique stores in the East end of Yucca Valley, many around Pioneertown Road on 29 Palms Hwy. Try the Yucca Valley Swap Meet at the old drive-in theater at Old Woman Springs Road and Hwy 62, Sat & Sun 7 – 1.
• Live Music: Tuesday is open-mic night at the Joshua Tree Saloon on Hwy 62, it shouldn’t be missed!
• Don’t miss Pappy & Harriet’s, the quintessential honky-tonk, in Pioneertown, open Thursday-Monday (Monday is open-mic night!) where an eclectic crowd gathers for live music, great grub and drinks – reservations are HIGHLY recommended.
• Stroll around Pioneertown a movie-set town built by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry as a place not only to make westerns, but also as a place for back-lot people to live. This is not a touristy town. There are real folks living in Pioneertown, there are a few shops and plenty of photo ops on Mane St, at the west end you’ll see the OK Corral!! Sat & Sun afternoon from fall to spring local dress up & have a shootout.

• Drive to Desert Hot Springs to soak in mineral springs and visit quirky Cabot’s Indian Pueblo Lodge.
• And, oh yes, the endless hikes, drives and walks in the Park. The Ranger-guided walking tour of Keys Ranch is wonderful! If you have 4WD, the 18-mile Geology Motor Tour is a must.
