Comfy bed for better sleep

The room-darkening shades and extra bedding are loved by guests.
Choose Modern Main Street if you're looking for a space more private than a hotel suite that sleeps 3+ and with better amenities such as free laundry in unit, full kitchen, dog-friendly private yard, parking in rear (ADA if needed). Public EV charger 1 block away. Keyless entry. New construction, all one level, modern interior style. No steps, walk-in shower. Walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops & boutiques, excellent grocery store, and bike rentals. Blackout shade added front bed 1/25.

The space
4 guests max. Modern Main Street has three beds: one queen, one full, one twin upper bunk with 26" clearance, best suited to a child. Please read more details about beds/bedrooms below.

Modern Main Street is a great alternative to hotel suites that sleep more than 2, with comparable or better amenities such as laundry in unit, full kitchen, and dog-friendly, private yard. Private parking in rear.

Efficiently designed garden apartment. 700 sq ft but feels larger. All new construction completed April 2023. This is a licensed, permitted vacation rental. We keep no personal belongings in the apartment, it is solely used as a place for guests.

All spaces in the unit are “step-free,” including access from parking lot. However there is a 4” lip on the shower floor to keep the water in. Grab bars make this small step easy to negotiate.

No steps to front door when you walk from sidewalk, along driveway, and into primary door facing side patio (all flat). Private patio with south/east/west exposure and seating.

Bedroom #1 has one queen bed, and bedroom #2 has a full bed and a twin upper bunk bed over the full. 26" clearance from top of mattress to ceiling (can carry an adult's weight but this bed is best for a child). All three mattresses are Keetsa Plus which the manufacturer describes as “equally comfortable for stomach or back sleepers.” On a scale of soft/firm/extra firm, Keetsa classifies the Plus as firm. "This firm iCoil® mattress is topped with one inch of body-responsive BioFoam® and another inch of divinely soft Comfort Foam® "

Well-behaved dogs welcome. If you use a crate at home, please bring it with you. We have two friendly dogs, JoJo is an 9YO collie mix, and Frida is a 2YO old shepherd mix.

This is the lower flat in a two flat (1 upper/1 lower) building. Both units completely separate and private. Upper unit is occupied by owner/host.

We do not use air freshener or scented laundry detergent.

We have motion-activated security cameras pointed out over all building doors, guest unit patio, parking lot, and driveway.

Guest access
All parts of the space are available to guests.

Other things to note
If you are bringing bikes, we do have two bike racks in the backyard, one in the parking lot flowerbed and one under the stairs. Please bring your own bike lock

If you're thinking of renting bikes in the summer, we suggest making an advance reservation at Straight Wheel Cycling or Bikeworks. They sometimes get completely booked up weekends in June, July, and August.

This is the Downtown Commercial district, and there is occasionally street noise. In a brand new building with with double paned windows, the sound is quite faint. The garbage is picked up on Wednesday mornings at 5:30AM and that is loud.

Neighborhood highlights

If you're working remotely, you'll love the Half Moon Bay public library, a brand new LEED Platinum building two blocks from our building. There are dozens of sunlit carrels and the library is open M-Th 10-8 and Fri-Sat 10-5. Closed Sundays.

Half Moon Bay’s Main Street has a rich history, with dozens of buildings of historic significance. With parks, live music, many shops, galleries, eateries, you'll completely relax here on the Coastside.

If you’re here on the weekend, the Coastside Farmer’s Market is Saturday morning at Shoreline Station from April through December. Hosting dozens of growers from near and far, craftspeople, florists, ranchers and chocolatiers, you’ll find almost anything you need for your week’s meals. And there’s always music!

Afterwards, take a stroll down Main Street, with so many shops, galleries, eateries and places to sit, rest and take it all in.

In the summer and fall, there’s likely music at Mac Dutra Park on the corner of Kelly & Main, hosted by the City, and Shakespeare in Carter Park, just north of the bridge.

There is a historic walking tour, the town’s original jail (now a museum) and many fun events, including the famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, Shakespeare in the Park, Night of Lights and an Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade.

NOTE: If you are staying here on the day of a street fair (for example, 4th of July and Pumpkin Festival, 2nd weekend October), access to the driveway is blocked. We can advise you on where to park close by the night before so you have access to your car if you need it. We'll give you plenty of advance notice if this affects you.
