POOL AND DOCK SAFETY PRACTICES
DO:
• Be sure you can swim—or have help in the water.
Enter the pool only if you know how to properly swim, have an
experienced swimmer to assist you, or have a flotation device
such as a life vest, arm floats, or air cushion.
• Swim with someone else.
Make sure another swimmer is either with you in the pool or is
there supervising whenever you are in the water.
• Drink water to stay hydrated.
Be sure to drink plenty of water—never from the pool—to keep
yourself hydrated throughout the day—especially if it’s warm
outside.
• Use the bathroom.
Be considerate of others: Use the bathroom before you go into
the pool—and leave the water if you need to take care of
business.
• No Diving
Do not dive into the pool. Serious injury or death can occur by
diving in the pool in any location. Use the stairs and railing in
the shallow end, or the deep end ladder to enter and exit the
pool.
• Pool Floor is Non-Slip
The pool floor is coated with a non-slip surface for safety. Avoid
rough contact with the floor surface to prevent skin abrasions.
• Dry off before entering indoors.
When exiting the water to go inside the home, be sure to
completely dry yourself off before entering. Take care to not track
water onto slick floors where someone could slip. Do not sit on
furniture with wet clothes or in towels.
• Life Saving and First Aid Equipment
There is no Lifeguard. Two life saving rings, adult and child size,
are located on the side fence. A long rescue hook on a pole is
located on the front of the deck. Please identify these as you
enter the pool. Also two first aid kits are in the home, one in the
kitchen glass cabinet and the second under the first floor powder
room sink. In the event of a serious injury call 911.

DON’T:
• Don’t stay in the pool upon hearing thunder or seeing lightning.
Weather on the bay can change very quickly.
If you see darkening skies, hear thunder or see lightning you
must exit the pool immediately.
Remaining in the pool in bad weather can result in serious injury
or death.
• Don’t run around the pool deck.
Running around the pool area is dangerous. If you trip and fall on
the deck or into the pool, you can hurt yourself badly.
• Don’t engage in rowdy horseplay in the pool.
Steer clear of playing rough games involving dunking, holding
your breath for any extended period, or lifting and throwing
others into the air.
• Don’t use glass containers.
Glass containers of any kind are not allowed on the pool deck or
in the pool. Glass Beverage glasses, bottles and the like can
easily break on the concrete pool deck or pool walls.
Broken glass in the pool area may require the pool
to be drained and scrubbed at the Guest’s expense.
Instead use outdoor-friendly options like acrylic tumblers or
paper, plastic, or foam cups, or drink from a can.
• Don’t enter the pool under the influence of alcohol or
medications.
Swimming under the influence poses risks: Alcohol and some
medications can impair your ability to swim and affect other
motor skills, as well as breathing and orientation.
• Don’t push anyone into the pool.
What seems like fun can be dangerous. You could severely injure
someone when you suddenly throw, push, or yank them into the
water when they don’t expect it.

Airbnb has partnered with experts like Safe Kids Worldwide to help equip you with important water safety tips. So be sure to research them prior to arrival.

Be safe and have fun!

The Dock and the Bay
Dock Hours: Daily until Dusk
Please enjoy the Dock during daylight hours. Because the dock is
not illuminated and has no railing, it is closed for access at Dusk.
Please do not enter the Dock after dusk.
Dock Safety
There is no lifeguard on the property and swimming off the dock is
not recommended.
The Bay water contains stinging jellyfish and has other hazards.
There are slippery and dangerous rocks in the water between the
dock and the shore, and along the dock which could trap
someone in the current and result in serious injury or death.
Last, do not climb on or over the slanting rock wall between the
end of the rear yard and the shoreline. This is extremely
hazardous and will result in injury. Children must be closely
supervised in the rear yard behind the fence and on the dock.
However, if you still desire to swim in the Bay, the closest walk-in
beach is Matapeake Beach about one mile north of the home off
of Route 8.
