Cocoplum is close to restaurants, groceries, and is an ideal base for tours around the area. Located on a beach with shady palms - in a Garifuna fishing village.
Hopkins is a beach village that gives you access to kayaking, snorkeling, diving the barrier reef, jungle treks, and Mayan ruins.
Next door is Tipple Tree Guesthouse (the managers)

The space
Cocoplum is the lower beach front apartment with two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one being en-suite).
Each bedroom has ceiling fans and A/C. The rate includes A/C in the bedrooms, and only for night hours.
There is no A/C in the living/dining/kitchen area of the apartment. There are usually sea breezes, and the apt has big windows and fans.

Cocoplum has an open concept kitchen/living area. The living room has two couches, coffee table, a flat screen TV with cable tv showing both US and Belize channels.
Our couches are not beds. Please sleep in the bedrooms.

The kitchen has all the basic cooking equipment needed to prepare your own meals. Your private veranda faces the Caribbean Sea.

Beach towels are provided.

Cocoplum is ideal for two couples travelling together, or for a family.

Guest access
You have a separate entrance to your apartment, but the building has 3 apartments, so you will share the walkway to the beach front.
You have a private veranda that is yours alone.
The beach chairs are shared between you and the other 2 apartments.

9% Belize government tax will be collected upon check-in.

We are Gold Standard Certified. This means we are complying with the sanitizing and cleaning protocols mandated by the government of Belize.

The Belize Tourism Board requires every host to register the primary guests home address and nationality.

A/C is during night hours only, and confined to the bedrooms.
If you cannot manage without A/C in the living/dining/kitchen area then this listing is not for you.
We provide fans and windows in the rest of the apartment, and the sea usually provides breezes.
Daytime a/c can be purchased for $10US a day, per bedroom.

For the majority of my guests we are an international destination. Because of the advanced planning, and the cost, you should consider travel insurance that can cover you for a wide range of situations.

I am happy to have guests stay for Christmas, but no check-ins or check-outs on Dec 25th or 26th please.

Where you’ll be

Hopkins, Stann Creek District, Belize

AJ Palms is in the village of Hopkins, which is part of the charm I think, but I also know that it is not what everybody is looking for.
Hopkins is still very much a village community in a developing country. We are a village, not a resort tourist destination.
Hopkins is a wonderful community with a unique Garifuna culture, come to Hopkins with that in mind, embrace a different land and culture, and you will love it.
If you are looking for an isolated, or resort experience for your vacation, then we may not be the right place for you.
Being in the village can sometimes mean you will hear children, dogs, music, chicken and roosters, and we do have a restaurant next door that sometimes plays loud music, but mostly you will hear the breeze through the palm trees and the sound of the waves.

I am the owner and manager of a guesthouse in Hopkins since 1998 and I've managed AJ Palms Apartments since 2014. I'm British by birth, and naturalized Belizean by choice. I lived in Germany, off and on, for 10 years before moving to Belize. I am fairly good at speaking German, not all that great at writing it - but I am willing to try. I've always felt renting out my rooms and apartments is like renting out a part of my home, hopefully my guests get to feel the same way when they I host them. I'm enjoying my life on the beach.
