Beautiful area
Guests love this home’s scenic location.
A private Georgian country-house wing for relaxed family gatherings, with five spacious bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, snooker room, large kitchen, long-table dining, private courtyard, lake, woods and walks from the door. Sleeps 12 comfortably, with 4 flexible beds for larger family groups by arrangement. There’s a cottage available separately which sleeps 6, and enough dining space for both in the wing, but each space has cooking facilities for each
No stag or hen weekends, or parties please
The space
A country house wing with big spaces in a relaxed atmosphere
Extra beds (2 double sofa beds, children’s beds and a cot) available
A separate cottage on the estate can be added for larger groups, giving extra bedrooms and a quieter overflow space, of 3 double bedrooms
Runs and walks from the door
10 minutes from Fordhall Community Farm
25 minutes from Alderford Lake, with park run and water activities
Guest access
A wing of a large country house, with a big games room with full size snooker table and table tennis. Outdoor games, bbqs and outdoor pizza oven, and a scullery to support it, with a fridge, ice machine, dishwashers and plates and kitchen equipment
Guests have a private entrance, courtyard and garden, and shared large gravel carpark, lakeside and woodland
Shared EV charger
Supercharger available 2 miles away
Other things to note
No music outside
Dogs welcome
We suggest shoes off inside (slippers provided)
Washing up must be done in the sculleries, the kitchen is for food preparation only (we’ve had to put drains into an old house, so they block if not treated correctly)
The lake fills or not on a natural spring; in summer it is variable. There is also river access by the lake (private), a small river, wild and with otters; and the river fills a mill pond which is shallow but swimmable, at the end of the drive (1k, not private). Alderford lake is a good option too

Neighborhood highlights
We love hosting. Child and dog friendly. In 1721 our ancestor built the house to be like an Italian Palazzo, and we came back from working in London to look after it, after lockdown. An 18th estate rewilded, but with all mod cons like very hot water, fast wifi – 125 Mbps, nice cotton sheets, Nespresso machine! Also with flowers, trees, water, lots of wildlife, badgers, otters, hawks. We also grow our own organic flowers and veg. Swings, private lakeside for picnics and a fire. Wild swimming if you’re brave and the lake is full enough. Otherwise there’s the freezing river. Walks from the house. Swings, but there’s a more exciting council playground half a mile away, and a skatepark
A company will come and bring you a wood fired sauna for around £150; it’s lovely!
A quiet rural area (but with a corner shop 5 min drive/bike away, open til 11 with a bakery and wine) with a private lake, woods, with wild swimming at the mill pond at the end of the drive.
Happily we are 10 mins drive from The Bear, which may be the best pub in England! In September 2022 it got a five-star review in The Telegraph - saying "the food is magnificent..with utterly charming staff and an air of slick hospitality, The Bear is impeccable". Its still a local and some menus are attached below.
Fordhall Community Farm is a couple of miles away, with countryside events, lots for children, and a good kitchen/dining room, butchery and shop, cute piglets, walks around the farm. Market Drayton, the nearest town, 10 minutes drive away, has a 1,000 year old chartered market on Wednesdays, with a growing food scene, restaurants, local shops and pubs, with home brewed beer, and a swimming pool and community cinema. Shrewsbury, a historic town, is 30 mins away, with great antiques and book shops, independent dress shops and a craft market on some Saturdays, also great restaurants and cafes, and boats on the river! Ironbridge Gorge is 30 min away. Cardingmill Valley and the Shropshire hills are great to walk
We live in the other part of the house, the wing is a Victorian entertainment wing, but won't encroach. Its a big house
We are very happy to help with supermarket shops etc and can put your shopping in the fridge/cupboard before you come
Also we can do a lasagne for you with salad, bread, ready for you hot in the oven (£60)
We also have a cottage on Airbnb that sleeps six, in the grounds, which you can combine

Hi! We have been restoring our old family house. We like art, travel, family, all sorts of things. We very often stay in Airbnbs when travelling, we like meeting local people.
My family include my husband, his teen daughter, my sister, dogs and cats! I like art, he likes puzzles, my sister likes history. We’ve done a holiday let at home for 20 years. We enjoy meeting the people it hosts! We live in rural Shropshire, which is beautiful and so green
