Welcome!

The space
Welcome to Birdsong Corner! The main level of this 2-level, lovely brick ranch home. Please note that we are not handicap equipped or considered wheelchair accessible. No shower chairs, stools, or walkers are permitted in the shower/tub.

My husband and I have a lower/terrace level residence. Your porches, living space, and entrances are 100% separate from our sound-insulated apartment. No shared spaces.

In the summer both your front door and carport entrances are surrounded by vibrant flowers. Step inside the sun-filled main level of this lovely house. Settle in and make yourselves at home!

Our neighborhood is so quiet and peaceful. You'll enjoy a relaxing day on the porch, and a sound night's sleep. Use the light-blocking cellular shades and Dohm sleep machine or small fan to sleep-in, or open the windows to let in the mountain air, bird-song, and sunlight.

Three bedrooms (first offers one queen bed, second two twin beds, third a single twin bed). The beds sleep 5, and we are happy to accommodate a 6th infant or toddler. All bedrooms have space for the *Pack and Play*, available upon request.

Please note that we launder all sheets, blankets, AND bedspreads between stays. Your comfort and well-being is our top priority, so you will rest in 100% fresh, clean bedding.

The kitchen is fully-equipped including microwave, coffee, and full refrigerator with bottom freezer.

The main living area is open-concept, flooded with lovely sunlight, and features a dining room table for work space, and a 65-inch flat screen television.

YouTubeTv and Apple TV are available to you. You are also welcome to Login to your favorite app to watch. Binge your favorite series, or spread out a puzzle or game.

We are more than happy to accommodate cyclists coming to Bedford for Peaks Coaching Group Camps. There is plenty of space to safely bring your bike inside for the night, and we provide optional hunter-green bath linens (just the right shade for washing away layers of Bedford County gravel dust :) for a worry-free evening. Have a hot shower, and relax into a great nights' sleep!

Welcome! We're really happy to have you!

Guest review: "The house is absolutely adorable! We felt comfortable and at home immediately! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the yard was perfect! We loved all the personal touches and lots of information about the local things to do. We will definitely stay here again if we’re ever in the area!"

Guest access
Check-in is at 4pm. We offer self check-in using a keyless entry pad. The code will be sent to you shortly before arrival. You'll park in the driveway and enter through the side porch door. There is an incline at the edge of the carport, and shallow step at the door threshold ~ otherwise your space is step-free.

Other things to note
We are both artists, so you'll be surrounded with our original artwork, as well as that of other local artists. You'll find local art venues in our welcome folder.

When you're ready to get outside, take a right at the end of the driveway and follow the sidewalk for a 25-minute walk, or a 3-minute drive to downtown Bedford, where you'll find all the conveniences of the world's best little town.

We're a 10 minute drive from the National D-Day Memorial (open daily 10-5) and from Claytor Nature Center, 15 quick minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and about 30 minutes from Smith Mountain Lake.

If you'd like to hike to the top of the mountain you see from the deck, Claytor Nature Center and the Sharp Top trail head are both just 15 minutes away! (And just 20 minutes to the beautiful Falling Water Cascades hike).

After your adventures, grab a 28-inch Benny's pizza to enjoy by the beautiful propane fire pit, or cook a four-course meal in our fully-equipped kitchen.

Read a book and watch for deer in the cool of the carport, or spend the evening star-gazing from the deck (or better yet, grab some blankets and take in the night sky from our safe and spacious yard, portable telescope provided!)

Our neighborhood is beautiful and very safe for walking and biking, so feel free to wander the streets, and even walk to town for breakfast (Wednesday through Sunday) or lunch (Monday through Sunday) ... we'll share directions and recommendations for good things to eat!

For a little exercise, take a ten-minute walk to get to "The Loop", and enjoy a 3 mile walk around Bedford, see some of its most historic locations ... feel free to ask the friendly locals who are also walking the loop for their recommendations, as well.

Whether you're in town to work, visit, celebrate, recover, relax, or explore, our lovely ranch home is a wonderful spot to land for a few days, unpack, and take a load off.

My work: Artist/Educator
Fun fact: I make art with bits of torn paper
I am an artist, a former teacher, and an empty-nester. After enjoying living in Raleigh, NC, my husband and I returned to my hometown, where we live a quiet life in Bedford, Virginia. We love animals, hiking, art, travel, books, cooking, and being close to family once-again. All of the above have influenced the design and vibe of our home, and we are delighted to offer the private main level for your stay.
