The space
Belemnite Cottage is in the same yard as our other property Ammonite Loft so can be booked together for larger parties or friends/ families holidaying together.
Belemnite Cottage is a newly refurbished cosy and comfortable harbourside cottage, light and airy and full of character. It is accessed from one of Whitby's traditional yards, up stone steps and a wooden walkway. The front door opens into the hallway with coat hooks and shoe racks on the right hand wall. The compact bathroom is on the left inside the door and has a large walk in shower at one end, loo and basin at the other with plenty of mirrors, rails and hooks, towel rail radiator and bathroom cabinet.
The hallway leads into the open plan lounge/kitchen with large sash window straight onto the harbour. Large corner sofa, coffee table, 43" Smart Fire TV, dining table with 4 chairs, books, games, local interest books and maps. Woodburning stove with starter pack of fuel.
This leads through into the fully equipped kitchen area with window onto yard, handmade kitchen units, a small fridge with freezer, oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle. There is also the beautiful original range (not in use). Cupboard under the stairs contains ironing board & iron, laundry airer, vacuum cleaner etc.
Please note, although the kitchen is fully equipped and we provide salt and pepper we do not provide cooking oil, just because of the difficulty of keeping it fresh and clean. We provide dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, cloths, and any other cleaning eqipment you may need.
Welcome tray provided with various teas, fresh coffee, local biscuits and a pint of milk.
Up the (fairly steep) stairs off the hallway there are two bedrooms, one either side.
The front, harbourside bedroom has a king size vintage brass bed, 2 bedside cabinets, bedside lamps, wardrobe, chest of drawers and shelved cupboard. Beautiful original fireplace (not in use) Mirrors and hairdryer.
The back bedroom looks out onto the quiet yard and has a pair of antique Heals of London mahogany single beds with bedside cabinets and lamps. A cupboard with plenty of hanging space plus a shelved cupboard. Full length mirror, hairdryer.
Each bedroom has blackout curtains, comfortable 1000 pocket spring mattresses with memory foam toppers, 2 pillows each and quilts with cotton covers. Extra blankets/summer quilts provided in the blanket box in the king bedroom if you need along with softer pillows if you prefer.
We provide a bath sheet and bath towel per person plus hand towels and bath mat in the bathroom.
Each room has usb sockets.
PARKING INFORMATION
We provide a parking permit in the apartment for you to use free of charge during your stay. It is valid for Abbey Headland car park March-November which is a 10-15 minute walk uphill, 5 minute downhill. November-March Church Street (2 mins level walk) and all Upper Harbour (5/10 minute level walk) car parks can be used. We use these permits ourselves and whilst these car parks are a walk away they are the closest to the apartment as parking in Whitby is very limited and they are the only car parks we can buy a permit for. We provide these so you know you'll always have somewhere to park and don't need to worry. If you feel they are too far away you are of course under no obligation to use the permit. Council car parks are £9 a day in Whitby and there is on street parking throughout town, the closest which is not restricted to 2 hours is Church Street, past the Fleece pub, but is generally full. The permit does not give a guaranteed space but I have never seen Abbey Headland or Marina Back completely full.
The permit with full details and maps are in the apartment to collect on arrival and just hang in your car when you have parked. You are very welcome to collect the permit any time after 12.00 if you arrive in town early but please do not leave anything in the property before check in.
Please do not remove it from the holder.
Guest access
All of the property. The yard is shared with 3 other holiday properties and three shops in front which back onto the yard.
Other things to note
The property is in a very old building with 2 other holiday properties, one below and one next door, these both have balconies onto the harbour. There is potential for noise from other guests due to the nature of the building although we have done what we can to soundproof. As the property is in the town centre and harbourside there is also potential for noise from the harbour and across the harbour from the street and swing bridge. As the cottage is set back from Sandgate there is little direct noise from the street.
The bins are kept in the yard and are emptied on Friday and Monday, you don't need to do anything.
