Ammonite Loft is a spacious 2 bedroomed 2nd & 3rd floor apartment in the heart of Whitby’s East Side with harbour views from the lounge/kitchen. It is accessed from a traditional yard and has been beautifully renovated to offer a twin and a king size room on the 2nd floor, each with their own en-suite. The lounge/kitchen/diner on the upper floor is cosy yet spacious with fully equipped kitchen, dining area, 2 large sofas, superfast WiFi and Smart TV. Parking permit for Abbey Headland included.
The space

Accessed from a traditional yard and wooden walkway, with 27 external steps, you enter a light and airy hallway leading to both bedrooms and ensuites. The hallway also contains a laundry cupboard with washing machine, airer, iron and board. Up the steep winding staircase is a beautiful open plan kitchen-living room, complete with beams made from ancient ship's timbers and views across the town and harbour.
This comfortable and well-equipped apartment is centrally located to numerous restaurants, tearooms, shops and pubs and all of Whitby’s local attractions whilst being private and spacious.
LIVING & DINING AREA
Large open plan kitchen-living room on the top floor with head height windows across the rear wall with views onto the yard and harbour beyond.
The steep winding staircase from the hallway leads up into the modern kitchen offering a dishwasher, microwave, under counter fridge and freezer, induction hob and electric oven with grill.
The kitchen leads to the lounge/dining area with a dining table and chairs for four guests.
The lounge area offers 2 large 3-seater sofas, coffee table, a 43" smart TV, internet radio and Marshall Bluetooth speaker along with a good selection of board games. Table lamps, standard lamp, and portable fan for summer.
MASTER BEDROOM
Opening off the hallway at the bottom of the staircase.
King-size chrome bed with 1000 pocket spring mattress and memory foam topper, 2 bedside tables, reading lamps, dressing table, bedroom chair, hairdryer and full length mirror. Plenty of storage with a built-in wardrobe for hanging space and a built-in cupboard with shelves. USB sockets. Portable fan for summer. Blackout blinds and curtains with a large double glazed window onto Sandgate.
Ensuite: A modern en-suite fitted with a waterfall style shower, hand basin, toilet, mirror, towel radiator and storage shelves. Bath sheets and bath towels provided.
TWIN BEDROOM

A pair of single antique wooden beds with 1000 pocket spring mattresses and memory foam toppers, bedside tables and reading lamps, a bedroom chair, chest of drawers, hairdryer, full length mirror and a wardrobe with plenty of storage. USB sockets. Portable fan for summer. Blackout blinds and curtains, large double glazed window onto Sandgate.
Ensuite: A modern en-suite fitted with a waterfall style shower, hand basin, toilet, mirror, towel radiator and storage unit. Bath sheets and bath towels provided.
PARKING INFORMATION
We provide a parking permit in the apartment for you to use free of charge during your stay.
It is valid for Abbey Headland car park March-November which is a 10-15 minute walk uphill, 5 minute downhill.
November-March Church Street (2 mins level walk) and all Upper Harbour (5/10 minute level walk) car parks can be used.
We use these permits ourselves and whilst these car parks are a walk away they are the closest to the apartment as parking in Whitby is very limited. These are the only car parks we can buy a permit for. We provide these so you know you'll always have somewhere to park and don't need to worry. If you feel they are too far away you are of course under no obligation to use the permit. Council car parks are £9 a day in Whitby and there is on street parking throughout town, the closest which is not restricted to 2 hours is Church Street, past the Fleece pub, but is generally full. The permit does not give a guaranteed space but I have never seen Abbey Headland or Marina Back completely full.
The permit with full details and maps are in the apartment to collect on arrival and just hang in your car when you have parked. You are very welcome to collect the permit any time after 11.30 if you arrive in town early.
Please do not remove it from the holder.
OTHER INFORMATION
Please note there are 27 external steps to this property. As it is also in the centre of town there may be some street noise in the bedrooms from people on the street and deliveries to businesses in the morning, and leaving nearby pubs and restaurants at night, especially on a weekend. The bedrooms are on the second floor and are street side but the street is pedestrianised except for access. The lounge/kitchen is 3rd floor and has no windows street side. The building is listed and we finally got permission and installed new double glazed windows in the bedrooms with acoustic glass in November 2022 which should help with this noise.
We don't recommend this property for very young children simply because of the access and the steep internal stairs as we want guests to be completely happy and comfortable during their stay with no difficulties. If you feel your child is fine with stairs then that is fine with us.
Guest access
The whole apartment is available to you. The apartment is above our shop, Robinson's Jet and Sandgate Sweet Shop which are both open 10-5.30. The yard is shared by 3 other holiday properties, one of them ours and 3 shops.

Welcome to Ammonite Loft, our two bedroomed holiday apartment on Sandgate in the heart of Whitby’s old town.
We have lived in Whitby all our lives and run businesses on Sandgate for over 20 years. We recently renovated this apartment above our shop, Robinson's Whitby Jet, to provide a lovely hideaway for up to four guests.
The building dates from the 1700s and we have tried to keep the character of the building including uncovering the ancient beams made from ships timbers on the top floor, as well as discovering a fabulous old fireplace in the bedroom. We have also provided all modern comforts, both bedrooms have large en-suites with spacious showers, wi-fi, smart TV, USB sockets, dishwasher, washing machine, large comfy sofas and ‘old school’ board games. Plenty of sockets, coat hooks, shelves, mirrors, storage where you need them. There should be everything you need in the apartment and if you feel anything else would be useful please let us know.
Please not, although the kitchen is fully equipped and we provide salt and pepper we do not provide cooking oil, just because of the difficulty of keeping it fresh and clean.
Welcome tray provided with various teas, fresh coffee, local biscuits and a pint of milk.
The apartment is hidden away down one of Whitby’s yards and accessed by a traditional wooden walkway and steps. It is light and spacious and has views onto Sandgate from the bedrooms and lovely views over the harbour and town from the lounge/kitchen upstairs.
There are numerous shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants all within a few minutes walk so you can just park your car and leave it. We provide a parking permit which can be used in Abbey Headland car park all year and in Church Street/Marina Back November to March so you don’t need to worry about where to put your car.
