We'd love for you to explore Oaxaca like a local from your home away from home. Alcala 228 is located a short walk away from the Centro Historico, Mercados, and our favorite restaurants and bars.
We have so many great friends who love coming to Oaxaca, and our aim when designing 228 was to make each of their stays as comfortable as possible. Our wish is for 228 to feel like you're at your own home that happens to be in one of the most magical cities in the world.
The space
The Living Room & Kitchen
As you enter 288, you are welcomed by a fresh agua fresca, a botana of Oaxacan flavors, and of course, Mezcal from some of our favorite Maestro Mezcaleros.
Our kitchen is fully equipped to make yourself something delicious with ingredients from the local Mercado. We have a drip coffee station, an electric coffee maker, a toaster oven, a microwave, gas range and oven, a refrigerator with a 3.75-liter water capacity to dispense filtered water that we fill daily for you, pots, pans, and utelcils.
We will also make fresh coffee, cut up fresh fruit, and bring fresh bread daily, all included with your stay with us.
In the living room, you will find a 65" 4K TV with Apple Airplay & Chromecast connectivity to stream from any one of your accounts easily. Shower the living area with sound from our surround sound JBL soundbar and subwoofer to complement the scents from our diffuser. Find board games and playing cards under the TV. Cool off from the Oaxacan Sun with not only your agua fresca but a large Air Conditioning unit.
And our home wouldn't be fit for hosting without a bar stocked with Mezcal from some of our preferred Mezcaleros. Sample a variety of agaves from the comfort of your vacation home.

We have two large nut trees covering the space into which you are free to park a car if you wish to. Please note you will have to enter from the Primera Cerrada to come in through the large metal doors.
The main event of the backyard, however, is our Cocina de Humo, a traditional outdoor brick and clay kitchen made in the style of our own Grandmother's outdoor kitchen. If you'd like for us to facilitate a meal prepared in this outdoor kitchen, just let us know.
As you descend one level, outside of the downstairs Master Bedroom you will find a social area from which to make your plans or discuss your favorite parts of the day under the Oaxacan Clouds. Behind this space is our collection of dessert plants, including Maguey Espadin, Madre Cuish, cacti, and other local varieties of plants.
One further down, you will find an enclosed lush and green patio space that makes the perfect backdrop for that picture everyone will envy.
Other things to note
Our home is taken care of by the amazing Fatima. She will be at the house to tidy up, make fresh coffee, serve fresh fruit, and bring fresh bread daily at 9am. Fatima speaks only Spanish, but i can be reached through here with any questions about the house. Fatima does tidy up common areas and individual rooms. If you would prefer her to show up at a later time throughout your trip, or would like more privacy, please let me know and we can set a predetermined schedule, if one at all.
While we don't have a washer or dryer on site, if your clothes find themselves in need of a wash, we can facilitate a one time laundromat service for you on us during your stay.
