Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Welcome to the Doctor’s 1781 House on the Green in the Litchfield Historic District, a Registered Landmark. We are thrilled to share with our guests this beautifully preserved 1781 house and lush gardens in Connecticut’s quintessential colonial village. Located among historic homes and buildings and across the Green from Litchfield's charming restaurants and shops, walk in the footsteps of Washington, Tallmadge, Rochambeau, Harriet Beecher Stowe and other luminaries of America’s founding…

The space
The entire house is yours !

The house is approximately 1600 square feet with four bedrooms and 2.5 baths, suitable for a couple for a romantic getaway or a family for a trip into history.

Our recent guests have visited for family reunions and weddings in the Litchfield area and to visit with their kids at the nearby Forman School - as well as to experience the spirit of 1776!

On the first floor there are two large private bedrooms on opposite ends of the house each with queen size beds. There is a kitchenette in the “studio” bedroom with a full size refrigerator, large microwave, large toaster oven, electric water kettle and Keurig coffee maker along with a kitchen counter and sink suitable for food preparation. It does not have a full oven and stove top. The studio has direct access to the private patio within the gardens. Next is an indoor dining area with seating for 8 and a central living room connecting the other bedroom with a deluxe Saatva queen bed.

There is a loft style queen bed and an adjoining bedroom with twin beds on the second floor. There is also a remote office work room with two executive desks on the second floor. All the bathrooms are on the first floor accessed by a well lit stairway from the second floor.

We have a high chair and portable crib for a baby/infant and two folding twin beds that can be placed elsewhere in the house as needed.

The house is fully air conditioned with a new eco friendly system. There is central air conditioning and heating in two zones on the first floor and two dual air/heat split mini units covering the loft queen bed, twin bedroom and the remote office work area on the second floor.

On the outside the 1781 house is surrounded by now lush gardens with prolific apple trees and has its own private patio with dining table and seating for 8 (or more if you invite your local guests!). There is enough space in the large private parking area behind the house for the Continental Army - or at least several cars.

We provide complimentary WiFi, coffee pods, tea, candy (including tootsie rolls and Dots if you can chew them) and a welcome bottle of wine (a chilled southern France rosé during the summer 🥂!). The house is professionally cleaned from top to bottom for each stay. We offer luxurious Saatva bedding!

There is a Stop & Shop nearby to fill the fridge and a variety of restaurants across the street and in the area to enjoy !

Guest access
The entire house and studio patio is open to our guests and private. The Village Green is at your doorstep and is lovely for a stroll anytime of day. Enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Other things to note
There is a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in the studio bedroom.
