Weston is a planned community with neighborhoods integrated into the lush landscape among the more than 1,800 canals and lakes in the western part of South Florida’s Broward County. It’s an excellent sample of what some of the Flamingo area’s longer coastal trails have to offer. Passing along the waterfront, you’ll go through the original fishing village of Flamingo, a relic of the Florida peninsula of the past. This walk is also perfect for those who are keen to birdwatch along the shore.

Brian Piccolo Park

Named after the famous professional football player who grew up in South Florida, Brian Piccolo Park sits on nearly 200 acres in Cooper City, about 20 minutes from Weston. The area has a skate park, soccer fields, basketball courts, and even a cricket pitch. The velodrome cycling track is the only one of its kind in Florida and one of three in the southeastern United States. The park is also a stop on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.

Bonnet House Museum and Gardens

Located about 40 minutes away by car, this historic home sits on the gorgeous oceanfront to the east of Fort Lauderdale. You can explore the 1920s house, art collection, and beautiful gardens that are representative of a native barrier island habitat of South Florida.
