Lake front - 2 bedroom, 1 loft home with hot tub

ChelseaRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This is by far one of best airbnb experiences we’ve had. Andy was extremely responsive and gave some great tips for ice fishing on the lake that resulted in great success for our family. The space was extremely clean and well kept and the location itself is very private, peaceful, and secluded. We’re already talking about planning a trip back as soon as possible! We would highly recommend to anyone!

Hand crafted Log Home

EugeneRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Best place to stay if you like the great outdoors but still with amenities. So dark at night you could see the milky way when there is no clouds. Larry is super friendly, loves the outdoors and sharing it. Borrowed his canoe to paddle across the lake to his other cabin in the woods. Would recommend fully.

Had a great stay at Arlene’s place. She communicated quickly and even turned on the front light porch for us since we were arriving at night time. Highly recommend if you want some peace and quiet in the countryside.

HighNote 200 feet to town

TaylorRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Ty so much for allowing us to stay at your place even w all the unforeseen weather complications and power. The relocation to a new place was beyond amazing even with the power going out again; the hot bath, grill, and wood burning fire place was excellent to spend my 29th bday. I definitely will be coming back but maybe not mid winter 😂 It still was one of my best adventures yet!

2nd time we've stayed here and both stays were excellent. The place is near the highway but still felt very private. Would definitely recommend! Great parking for both a car and a truck with a two-place trailer.

The Marlin House/Talkeetna Good Times

LewisRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Jared's home is a beautiful, quiet, well-located, spotlessly clean haven in the Talkeetna woods. All of the shops in Talkeetna are within walking distance. My only regret is that we only stayed for two nights. Jared's place is a gem!!!

Amazing wood beams all around. Comfortable beds and nice shower, what more you need? The furniture and floor may remind some of a guys’ hunting cabin but it didn’t phase us.

G St Base Camp With Sauna

MeganRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Michelle's place was the perfect space for 8 of us (2 couples and 4 single folks) There is a sitting space upstairs by the bunk beds as well as a family room downstairs. All 8 of us were able to gather in the downstairs family room to play games. There isn't a bathroom upstairs where the beds are, just something to keep in mind for folks who might need one in the night. It's an easy drive to town (and walkable if you're ambitious), in a quiet neighborhood. We really loved the sauna (which was why we picked this place) - it got very hot and was one of the highlights of the weekend. Michelle was very responsible and there were a ton of extra towels and the kitchen was stocked with amenities like oil and spices. My Anchorage friends were very impressed, they said it was one of the better AirBnB's they had stayed in in AK.

Beautiful location! Very easy check in and flexible host. We loved enjoying a fire on the deck overlooking the winter wonderland and seeing all the neighborhood dogs living their best dog life running across the frozen lake to visit each other. Very comfortable beds. Clean and cozy.

Wolf Track Retreat

Cynthia MRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Lindsey & Nikolaus! Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. We walked in and immediately felt relaxed and at home. You had every little thing we could possibly want in a rental. We like to cook for ourselves, and you had absolutely everything we needed. We were winding our trip up and your place was the perfect ending to a great trip. Almost wished we'd started here and stayed for at least a week. It's ideal for two couples with two separate floors and two full baths. All the best! Cheers! -Cindy

Incredible cabin in an amazing location. Easy to access, yet out of the way, peaceful and quiet. Perfect spot for a weekend away. Close to groomed ski trails in the winter and lots of hiking in the summer. I can’t recommend highly enough, Tim has a pretty special place if you’re lucky enough to find it available.

Your guide to Talkeetna

Welcome to Talkeetna

Visitors to this tiny, funky enclave are greeted by a “Welcome to beautiful downtown Talkeetna” sign casually painted on a collection of rough-hewn boards — a fitting introduction to a town that has hung onto its Gold Rush spirit. The downtown in question is about a block of shops, galleries, and restaurants housed in characterful buildings, many dating back to the early 20th century. The Talkeetna Roadhouse has grown up around a log cabin built in 1917, and serves sourdough pancakes made from a starter that reportedly dates back to 1902. Nestled in the shadow of North America’s tallest peak, Denali, the hamlet has become a base for rugged mountaineers and year-rounder residents with an iconoclastic spirit. The unincorporated village is famous for having appointed an orange cat named Stubbs as its honorary mayor from 1998 until his death in 2017. Located two hours north from Anchorage, the state’s largest city, Talkeetna is an ideal place to get a taste of small-town frontier life.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Talkeetna

Deciding when to visit Talkeetna has a lot to do with your tolerance for cold weather, as both warm and chilly months have plenty to offer. Summers in Talkeetna are mild and even occasionally hot, and an ideal time to book a rafting trip on the Talkeetna or Susitna rivers, which flow right through town. In the winter, snowy sports like snowshoeing, skiing, and dog sledding take over. The entire month of December is devoted to Winterfest, an entertaining blend of the cozy — a tree lighting ceremony and light parade — and irreverent: a bachelor auction, and a Wilderness Woman competition in which participants haul water and chop wood.

Top things to do in Talkeetna

Denali National Park and Preserve

You don’t have to be a seasoned outdoors person to experience Denali, the 20,310-foot-high peak that towers over Talkeetna. You can book a flightseeing tour year round with one of the local air taxi businesses, and take in breathtaking views of the mountain from above, as well as views of dramatic gorges and ice walls. You’ll have an unforgettable experience of wild Alaska, with plenty of time left over to grab dinner in town.

Talkeetna Cemetery

This small cemetery is inextricably linked to Denali. A whitewashed cedar telephone pole appointed with chainsaw-carved climbers memorializes those who lost their lives on the mountain. Don Sheldon, a legendary bush pilot known for rescuing mountaineers in trouble, is buried here.

Hurricane Turn Train

Traveling 55 scenic miles between Talkeetna and Hurricane Gulch — a verdant valley spanned by a trestle bridge — this train stops, well, anywhere. Lauded as the last “flag stop” train in the United States, locals rely on it for transportation to remote locales, and hail a ride by standing along the route and flagging it down — with an actual flag, a white T-shirt, or even their hands. Once aboard, passengers tell the conductor where they wish to stop. Make sure to grab food for the journey in Talkeetna — this rugged train doesn’t have a dining car.
