Our group of five had an unforgettable stay at this gem of a place! The location was perfect for our ski trip, with Aomori Springs, Hakkoda Ropeway, Iwakisan, and Moya Hills all within 45 to 55 min drive. The house itself was a beautiful blend of eclectic Japanese culture and modern comforts. We were in awe of the handcrafted wooden structure with dove-tail joints, the high ceilings in the common area, and the perfect combination of traditional tatami rooms and comfy beds. The bathrooms were the cleanest and most modern I’ve seen in Japan! The host was the sweetest, taking us to a 150-year-old building where we were entertained by a musician, learned to play a traditional Japanese banjo and even dressed in kimonos to pretend to be samurai. She refused payment for her kindness, and it was truly an experience we’ll never forget. As a frequent Airbnb host myself, I can honestly say this is the best place I’ve stayed in yet. Highly recommend!

Best sleep we had so far on a 4 week tour of Japan! Place smelled on incense which absolutely lovely. Very cozy and warm yet spacious despite windy and rainy outside. Beautifully kept place, feeling more like someone’s home vs a transactional residence. Museums right outside the door of the property. Masaki-San helped connect us with a taxi which was super helpful as we lacked telephony and it was storming when we left. He was also kind enough to offer recommendations for restaurants which was much appreciated given our rather late arrival on a Sunday night. All-in-all a wonderful and too quick a visit for an off-the-beaten path village.

Our stay at Cottage Hideaway was wonderful! We were able to find the location easily, and Aki met us and helped us check in easily. The cabin was beautiful and spotlessly clean. We were plenty warm even during snow storms with a combination of electric split systems, kerosene heaters, and a cozy fire place. The property was beautiful and huge! Our kids spent most of their time playing outside in the snow. Aki was great to work with. He was very proactive in providing recommendations for restaurants and ski resorts, checking on our needs, and even plowing the snow off the driveway every morning. We will remember our time in Aomori fondly.

This was an amazing place right by Hirosaki Castle. Located a short walking distance from the restaurant center. Will book again!
