Cottage vacation rentals in Hvalfjarðarsveit

The cottage was exactly as described, perfect quiet location overlooking the river. Check in was very easy. We received an email before arrival from the host with clear instructions for check in and locating the property. The kitchen had everything you would need for your stay and the whole property was spotless. The hot tub was great to unwind after a full day exploring. The host was very responsive and checked in with us to make sure everything was good which it was. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

The day we arrived in Iceland, it was snowing heavily. The road to the cottage was covered in snow, and unfortunately, we got stuck. Luckily, it was only a 10-minute walk to our cottage. Next day Adam was really helpful; he arranged roadside assistance, which was much cheaper than the national roadside service cost. The cottage is so beautiful. My kids really enjoyed it, although we were stranded for a day. The kids loved the surroundings and managed to build a snowman and an igloo. Adam was a great host. He went out of his way to help me. Thank you for your great hospitality.

Our trip to Dóróthea and Baldur’s beautiful summer house was really special. Our two girls played in the thick snow and loved watching the stars from the hot tub. The location could not be better for seeing all the geological wonders of this corner of Iceland. Baldur was an excellent host, meeting us on our first day, providing plenty of firewood for the cold December weather, letting us know about local new-year’s eve events, and giving us a heads-up on the Aurora forecast. We saw beautiful dancing northern lights on New Year’s Eve all night long. Magical family holiday that we will be talking about for years to come.

Absolutely great place. We stayed with our two young children and felt right at home. Getting in and out of the area was super easy and the house was exceptionally well setup for a family with fun toys and comfortable furniture. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay on the Golden Circle.

Very nice house! Great location in a very calm and beautiful environment. We enjoyed the jaccuzzi and the outdoor shower. We’ll come back if we ever visit South Iceland again.

Really beautiful cabin in a perfect location. Good point to travel around the south from. Clean, very spacious and well laid out. Much bigger than I expected. Really good quality furniture and fittings. Lovely and warm at the end of a busy day exploring. Managed to watch a brilliant show of the northern lights from the decking. Would highly recommend.

We had the perfect stay at Jón’s place - a lovely, well-equipped lodge with a hot tub too! Location was also perfect - 5min from Faxafoss waterfall, and a short drive to everything you want to see in the Golden Circle. It was also a convenient location to explore the South of Iceland from!

We enjoyed our stay. House was as described. Great place to stay with kids.

Stunning view. A classic A-frame cabin. Soooo quiet and peaceful. Peaceful. Easy to walk to the restaurant and if you choose, walk to the little communities nearby, including farms and the local church. It's a cabin in the golden circle. Don't be a jerk. Appreciate. We are all lucky to experience this. And if you ask a question, Jake ANSWERS you almost immediately. But really... the porch overlooking the valley... and the AMAZING outdoor shower with hot water from the local geothermal station. SHUT UP if you don't appreciate how special this is. Therapeutic. Ahhhhhhhh. We stayed up late and saw the northern lights. Doesn't get better for peace and authentic. Thanks Jake!!!! 😁

The house was very cosy, always warm and perfect for a stay as a couple. We had a great time and an amazing view of the northern lights on our final evening!

Gudny was an amazing, generous, and kind host. We felt immediately right at home and the home is well stocked with everything you could need as you adventure around Iceland. The location was excellent for our needs and it was quiet with beautiful views. The home was exactly as expected and the hot tub and outdoor shower were excellent! We would 100% stay again and highly recommend staying!!

The scenery was amazing. It was wonderful to hang out on the porch, though admittedly a bit chilly in early October. The cabin was very cute, well laid out, clean, and with many small touches that made it wonderful. Only downside was that the hot water does have a strong sulfur smell and the kitchen sink is shallow resulting in water often spraying out of the sink due to the high water pressure. Aside from those two minor issues that place was perfect solitude. One other item to mention is that the nearby waterfall trail was very worthwhile. You park in the nearby small neighborhood and walk up an ATV trail. It was amazing to be the only people around the waterfall and to be able to hike further up the mountains.

Stefan was great host, helped us as much as he could with recommendations and provided clear instructions on how to reach out his place and use it best way as possible-we truly appreciate and recommend!

Very peaceful and homely cabin in beautiful surroundings. Svanna is very helpful and the cabin is well kept and cosy. Rural location - we were lucky enough to catch the northern lights 4 nights in a row! Would happily stay again, thank you ☺️

We stayed a week at this beautiful cozy cabin with four people. It was nicely equipped very cozy and we loved watching the stars from the hot tub. Thorstein was a super nice host who was always available if we had questions. The location is central for trips around the golden circle and is thus a perfect combination of peaceful remoteness and hot spot for sight seeing. We recomend it warmly and hope to come back some time.

Hjordis was a very nice host. She is also the cook of the restaurant Réttin. The food was awesome. Highly recommend. The cottage was as described though you need to pre-order and pay your breakfast in advance so it is delivered the night before. We paid 2 breakfast for 4 and we couldn’t finish all. We really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you, Hjordis.

Absolutely amazing stay here. It is beautiful, peaceful, quiet and the space is perfect. From heated floors, to the jacuzzi, to the beautiful views it is just the perfect getaway. Highly recommended. Odd was an amazing, considerate and accommodating host. Dont hesitate to book if you’re considering it!

Brynja was a fantastic host, super responsive and gave us a lot of peace in mind - especially since the weather during our visit was one of the harsher times of Iceland. Surroundings was gorgeous, even when it was foggy. I definitely recommend future guests to book a WELL equipped 4x4, since getting to the cottage requires you to drive down a hill. I didn't get to see the northern lights unfortunately, but I would definitely rebook this place just solely off the fact that the view would be incredible if the lights do happen to show up next time I'm in the country! The hot tub was also a huge plus & seeing the horses in the morning close by was dreamy. Thanks so much for a great stay!

We had a wonderful stay in Maggy's house. The house is really well-equipped and everything seems to be new. Maggy had the hot tub ready for us on our arrival and the house is always at the perfect temperature which is lovely after a day out exploring in the Icelandic autumn. Check-in and communication was seamless and everything in the house was exactly as advertised on the listing. The kitchen is particularly well fitted out and it was a pleasure to cook in it. I would highly recommend Maggy's house.

Alfa and Finnur were very friendly and helpful, the best hosts!!! The house is lovely and cozy. Perfect for our family! The hot tub was the perfect temperature and so relaxing. I sincerely hope this place is available for our next visit!!!

A very cozy apartment with an amazing view! Linda was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed, including everyday essentials like coffee, spices, and oil, which was a thoughtful touch. The location is perfect for exploring the western part of Iceland. I highly recommend this wonderful apartment!
