Neighborhood highlights

A few places to check out in Kernville and around the valley:
- The Kernville Museum, several boutiques and antique shops.
- For those who want a taste of adventure, be sure to check out the various white water outfitters for a chance to raft the Kern. Yellow Jacket's outbuilding is a good secure place to store your hardshell kayaks. For those rock climbers, The Needles is a great destination. Locally (and when its not too hot), there is the Kern Slab and New Directions climbing area. And if you're new to the sport or desire to try your hand at it, both Sierra South and Mountain And River Adventures provide guided instruction on how to rock climb.

Interested in fly fishing? Be sure to check out Guy Jeans, a local fly fishing guide, directly across from Sierra South Outfitters.

And let's not forget the Kern River Brewing Company! So many beers to choose from, so little time! And good food as well......don't miss it!

Food choices to check out: Eddy Out Tap House And Grill (bistro food with independent craft brews), The Cracked Egg (comfort food, big portions...breakfast only), McNally's Burgers (a new location in Kernville...next to Guy Jean Outfitter), That's Italian Restaurant (traditional comfort food with wonderful array of pasta dishes), The Pizza Barn (pizzas, calzones and salads).

Sierra Gateway (aka The James Store) is a good source of groceries and supplies, although one can drive to the town of Lake Isabella to find a larger variety of amenities at Vons. Also to mention, there is a small market in Riverkern, near the corner of Cowbelle Blvd and Sierra Way. Limited groceries. They also have a nice little deli to get sandwiches, breakfast burritos and hamburgers.

Let's just put it this way.....I'm pretty much in love with the outdoors and have always been! ! I find myself gravitating to like minded people. Then again, I appreciate any adventurous soul who explores the world. For me, here are a few things that I personally enjoy in life that stir my soul: climbing, hiking, music, futbol (aka soccer), cooking, independent craft brewing, new cultural experiences and meeting new people.
