Garden view

Soak up the view during your stay.
Lagertha is a widebeam narrowboat & offers a relaxing, comfortable, cosy place to stay, to unwind and to reconnect with nature.
On her private 120ft mooring, she provides a rare opportunity to feel totally immersed in the joys of nature. You'll have your own private garden amongst the willows, there are no cars in sight. Only an occasional passing boat disturbs the bountiful wildlife.
Here is a tranquil space to sit, swim, unwind and enjoy the lazy flow of river life.

The space
Lagertha is a large widebeam narrowboat, measuring 60 feet long and 12 feet wide. Built by Viking boats in 2011, she is a modern, clean, spacious boat offering an extremely comfortable base for your holiday, situated just 5 mins drive from Isleham, 10 mins to Ely, 20 mins to Newmarket and 35 mins to Cambridge.

Nestled under the willows and set within a large part fenced garden, you'll have plenty of space to stretch out and relax both on and off the boat.

A nature lovers paradise, we regularly see otters, kingfishers, barn owls, reed warblers, heron, tern, woodpeckers and swans. Below the water, the river offers good fishing, from pike to perch and everything in between.

Please note - due to the proximity to water, the boat is unsuitable for children.
It may also be unsuitable for those with limited mobility due to the 4 or 5 min walk to the boat and the steps to get inside.
Remember, you will be staying off grid. This means that the electricity to plug sockets, tv and main fridge can be limited during the day and will be switched off at night.
At night, there is a 12 volt supply to power the ceiling lights, bedside lamps and mini fridge, however, the plug sockets will NOT work overnight. Unfortunately, therefore, the boat is not suitable for those requiring a constant electrical supply, particularly overnight, such as sleep apnoea machines.

If you have any specific requirements , please do get in touch before booking.

With 2 double bedrooms, Lagertha comfortably sleeps 3 adults. The 2nd double bed is a smaller 4 foot wide bed, and is accessible only from one side.

There's a bathroom with shower over the bath and an open plan kitchen/sitting/dining room measuring 19ft x 12ft. This is a large and spacious boat and living aboard is easy. We'll greet you on arrival to show you how, and there are full instructions in the visitors manual.

There's an oil fired central heating and hot water system (just like a house). There is a Thetford Cassette toilet, (just like a caravan). Water is stored in the huge onboard tank, which will be freshly filled prior to your stay and solar panels provide electricity, with the back up of a generator and leisure batteries where necessary.

6 litres of bottled drinking water will be provided, enough to get you started at least.

Gas oven and 4 ring hob. Fridge, 12v mini fridge & Microwave. And of course, there's a lovely little woodburning stove!

Please note that Lagertha is not to be driven by you - she is a static holiday home for the duration of your stay.

You are very welcome to bring paddle boards, kayaks, fishing gear etc. They can be easily launched from the garden. We have riparian rights for fishing. You will need a rod licence and please remember that no fishing is allowed out of season, 15 Mar - 15 June each year.
One well behaved dog is very welcome, strictly to be kept on a lead when not on the mooring please.
A BBQ / fire pit / outdoor cook pot is provided, so bring some logs and charcoal to cook outdoors.

Winter season
Lagertha offers a wonderful retreat in the colder months, with central heating and a log burner, she is cosy. The wildlife, fishing and general atmosphere on the river in winter is delightful.
However, the walk to the boat could be cold, wet and muddy underfoot, so bring some boots for outdoors and slippers for indoors.
The boat can get really warm by day and eve, with the heating and fire, but potentially cold overnight, so it's good to watch the weather forecast and come prepared.
If you have any questions, or any particular requirements, please feel free to messge before booking, we'll be delighted to help.

Guest access
You'll have private use of the entire boat and garden mooring, plus the riverbank footpath for miles of walking in both directions.
There is parking for two cars in the marina car park. The car park is used by other boat owners only, but parking is at your own risk, unfortunately we cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to your car or posessions.
From here, it's a 4/5 min walk along the grass floodbank to the mooring. A cart is provided to help with shopping and luggage.
Lagertha is ideally located to visit the wonderful market towns and cities of Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.
Attractions nearby include Ely Cathedral, Welney Wetland Trust, Wicken Fen, Anglesey Abbey, Ickworth House, Thetford Forest, RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath, Duxford Air Museum, Fitzwilliam Museum, Kings College Cambridge, Newmarket Races and the National Horseracing Museum.
The local Fenland museums, Prickwillow Engine Museum and Old Engine Stretham will give you a fascinating insight into the drainage of the fens and fenland life. They are open certain days if the week, so check their websites to plan your visit.

Other things to note
Please note that Lagertha is not to be driven by you.
She is neither insured nor suitable for visitors to drive.
Due to the proximity to water, she is not suitable for children.
There's so much to do in Ely, check the 'Visit Ely' website. Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Saffron Walden are all market towns well worthy of visiting.
