Our river cabin is a favorite for those who love being immersed in nature, surrounded by pristine jungle and a flowing river with multiple waterfall/swimming areas. The cabin overlooks a unique lava tube cave and river beach, with a cleared pathway down to the river. You will have a private covered outdoor bathroom a short walk from the cabin, and basic cooking supplies/gas burner/mini fridge. Please note that there is uneven terrain, best for those with good balance/physical fitness.

The space
This project is an unfolding vision, of deep immersion in nature, off grid/sustainability, organic gardens/agriculture and a space for healing. The cabin is on a 4 acre property along the Hamakua coast, 30 minutes north of Hilo. There is private parking, and a stairway descending into the jungle, where you follow a path through the trees towards the lodging area. You will pass our other home (another listing) and continue until reaching the cabin overlooking the river beach.

This cabin features a double bed with gorgeous views of the river, cave, and surrounding jungle. There is a relatively easy access down to the river, we have a path cleared with ropes to help our guests get down more safely.

The cabin is equipped with basic cooking/food prep area, with 2 burner gas stove, small water filter, mini fridge, basic utensils and coffee press. (Simple meals are best for those who wish to cook).

Your private outdoor bathroom with toilet, sink and hot shower is located within a short walk (~15 yards) from the cabin. Dishes can be done here as well.

High speed internet available. We offer spa and adventure services for those who would like to enhance their stay with us.

Note that the property is entirely off grid power and water, so we ask guest to be mindful of power and water use during one's stay.

As mentioned in description, there are stairs and rocky paths, so this property is best suited for those with good balance and comfort traversing uneven terrain. Due to this we also recommend guests not bring heavy luggage. Most choose to not lock the cabin, however we do have a key that locks from the outside for those who wish to lock while they are out exploring.

Guest access
As mentioned in the description, the cabin and bathroom are completely private, and unless requested for support, hosts do not come over in that area during guest stays.

There is another larger home that is rented (another listing), so the river is shared between all guests, however we find that most do get private time at the river even when both are booked. For those who would like, the whole property is available as a listing to ensure complete privacy.

Other things to note
This is a true nature-lover’s retreat, and best for those who are comfortable in nature, ie loves hiking jungle paths, enjoy sounds of nature and relatively comfortable with jungle creatures/bugs.

Some thing you might experience: The Coqui frogs chirp at night, which combined with river sounds create quite a lovely soundscape to sleep to. We provide ear plugs for those who are sensitive to noise. You can hear occasional noise from the nearby road, however for the most part the jungle sounds are more prominent.

Given the immersion in jungle, depending on time of year and rains there are mosquitos particularly in the afternoon. Keeping doors closed helps keep mosquitos from getting into the cabin. Bug spray is provided, and if you tend to get bite we recommend bringing your own as well.

In big rains, the river really roars, and it can get muddy and rocks get slippery, its really a cool experience, and not super common.

Please note that this property isn't for someone that has difficulty walking down stairs or through uneven terrain! And as mentioned before avoid heavy luggage!
