Relax with friends or family at this simple peaceful country stay, less than two hours drive from Cape Town in the Sandveld - part of the burgeoning Swartland.

Located in Aurora, a sleepy hideaway village rising from the farmlands of the Berg River valley. Veldhuis is located in the quiet upper dorp, overlooking the wheat and rooibos fields.

The comfortable family home easily accommodates up to two families.

The space
Tucked 20km inland from Dwarskersbos beach, Veldhuis is located on a large plot near the edge of the village of Aurora. Expect gravel tracks along wheat and rooibos fields and tortoises traversing the dirt roads in town.

The simple home sleeps up to 8 people in 2 bedrooms and an open-plan mezzanine floor. Each bed has comfortable cotton bedding and plenty of hot water bottles for freezing feet and fans for the renowned summer heat.

The main en-suite bedroom is downstairs, and the 2nd bedroom & mezzanine floor upstairs share a second bathroom.

The interior houses treasures collected on travels, specimens from the garden and gifts from family & friends. We'd love to share this soulful, unpretentious, beautiful town with you.

The elevation allows for magical sunsets and distant views of the blinking wind farm far on the horizon. It has all the amenities needed for a perfect weekend escape or for a longer stay to really wind down.

The small farm dam-style pool (in-season) is a welcome respite from the Swartland heat.

Veldhuis' main beckoning involves getting back to basics. Lazing on the stoep, cooking up a storm, braais on the veranda or slouching in front of the enormous fireplace may all conspire to tempt one away from the daily grind.

For the more adventurous, Aurora is a gravel or mountain biker's dream, offering many kilometers of quiet gravel or mountain routes. Or take a drive to Bokkomlaan or Elands Bay for lunch...

You have access to the entire property. As it is a sleepy hollow with permanent neighbours, no parties are allowed.

Please take note of the following...

- Firewood is provided.
- Local freshly made ciabatta & feta cheese delivery available (order before your trip).
- Coffee plunger, moka pot & filter machine provided.
- Well behaved & friendly dogs are welcome. Property only partially fenced.
- There is a small shop with only basics in Aurora. Best to shop beforehand as the nearest supermarkets are in Velddrift or Piketberg.
- WiFi connectivity available.
- Plenty of board games and books are available to intersperse frequent naps.
- Important: There is an open uncovered pool between the veranda and stoep, posing a risk for small children.
- There are no restaurants in town.

- Do nothing. Make coffee, grab a book and find a comfy spot on the veranda.
- Gravel bike excursions: Gravel road circuits in the Berg River valley including the dorpies of Eendekuil, Goedverwacht, Redelinghuys, Dwarskersbos and the Kapteinskloof
- Let the kids ride their bikes in the quiet safe streets.
- Hike up the Soetgoedkop hill, perched above the town.
- Visit the Piket-Bo-Berg farmers market last Saturday of every month.
- Wine tasting at Org de Rac.
- Lunch in Velddrift's "Bokkomlaan".
- Take a dip in the ocean at Dwarskersbos, +- 20 minutes away.
