Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Urban Zen retreat; unique mid-century modern meets Japan in a great neighborhood full of architectural gems. Updated 1950's architect-built passive-solar artist retreat home, surrounded by trees and Japanese Gardens. Casual comfort far from sterile, filled with art. Complete tranquility 10 min from downtown Mpls and very close to both U of MN campus. Lively, friendly neighborhood in walking distance to grocery store, gift shops, wine shop, yoga studio, coffee shops and great restaurants.

The space
You will feel like you are floating in a zen island above the surrounding neighborhood. This eco-friendly urban oasis features a huge wall of windows overlooking Japanese gardens, a wall of trees providing complete privacy, passive solar, recycled slate floors, recycled marble floors in kitchen + bath, radiant in-floor heat, whole-house AC, high-end stainless steel appliances, cement countertops, massive post and beam construction, all solid-wood ceiling and walls.

A guest favorite is the high-end ultra high-resolution audio system in the living room with huge CD and vinyl collection, or stream from your phone or computer. The second bedroom doubles as Media Room with 55" 4K HDR Ultra HDTV system.

Throughout the house there is much original art work (no generic crap!), sculpture and hand-made pottery, and lots of books. We want to surround you with beauty and meaning while immersing your soul in urban nature!

Eclectic blend of Japanese and Southwestern Native American aesthetic. Very private, quiet and tranquil setting nestled in among the trees. Complete seclusion in summer foliage, unique to an urban setting. In an eclectic vibrant neighborhood voted 'Best Architecture in the Twin Cities'. All organic cotton sheets and towels provided. 100% of the electricity for this home is provided by renewable sources. This is a retreat space within city limits.

Guest access
You will have the whole house to yourself including the well-equipped kitchen, full bath with shower and full-sized bathtub, large living room with stunning views, media room, exercise room with treadmill, laundry room downstairs and screen porch. You can also use the large patio with outdoor seating and Solo-stove fire-pit or stroll the Japanese gardens surrounding the house. There is also a small nature preserve across the street, right behind the seminary!

Other things to note
Please know that this is my personal, much beloved home, not an anonymous rental unit.

The house was built in 1950 by a local architect/engineer with heated floors and from many recycled materials and is a passive solar design- way ahead of its time!

Neighborhood highlights

It's like being in a small town in the heart of the city. Only a couple blocks to a great little enclave of independent shops: a grocery store, gift shops, bookstore, wine shop, post office and several great restaurants. There is a nature preserve across the street behind the seminary that is a great place for a walk in the woods. My home is just blocks from St. Paul U of MN campus. Voted best neighborhood for architecture in all the Twin Cities.
