***LONG STAYS possible - msg me***
You’re invited to share in the beauty of Feathertail Nature Refuge, 22 acres of protected land of high ecological value only 25kms west of Brisbane & backing onto the southern section of D'Aguilar Range National Park. A serene 'traffic free' paradise with a seasonal creek & an abundance of native wildlife.
The space
This listing is for a room in a shared house with me (3rd level). King bed (or zipped apart as two long singles) available in a spacious room with your own balcony overlooking the forest. Enjoy sunrise views (or block them out!) and morning bird calls from the comfort of your bed. Beyond your bedroom is shared space with me, but there are different indoor and outdoor spaces to choose from and I’m very happy to keep to myself so that you feel freedom in being here.
When you book for 2 (not appropriate for couples) - you will automatically be given the main bedroom pictured and I will assume you would like the room set up as two long singles. If you would prefer separate bedrooms, I can make up the 2nd bedroom for Guest 2 and will send you a request for an extra $15/night after booking. If you are booking in for 3 or 4, there will be a similar additional fee and we can discuss on booking.
If you’d prefer your own self-contained studio space, please view my alternative listing - Forest Retreat Studio for like-hearted nature folk. I do not book both listings at the same time, so you will be the only guest/s.
A meandering pathway from the house takes you into the seasonal creek…when not in flow, you can wander up the creek and get ‘lost’ in your own paradise….when in flow, play in the shallows or find a rock to sit on and take in the view. Practice yoga, meditate, read, watch the wildlife, go spotlighting, stargaze, write, eat, drink or whatever else you feel called to do!
You'll notice that this place really encourages you to slow down and remember how to 'be' and not 'do' encouraging a greater reverence for the natural world that surrounds and sustains us...and a greater appreciation of yourself as part of that beauty. Better suited for those looking to disconnect from technology as there is NO wifi, and to date, no phone/data coverage with providers other than Telstra.
The house is off-grid (with mains power back up), so thank you for being very mindful of your water and energy use during your stay. Shorter showers, an outdoor bath only when there’s an abundance of water, conserving firewood etc. Please don’t bring and use your own hairdryers or kitchen gadgets as these can compromise the energy set up. Plan to live simply during your stay. Apart from a little curiosity when boiling the kettle or cooking toast on the gas stove, most people who have a hint of eco-consciousness don't feel restricted by it at all. Even the composting toilet (no water) is a novel experience... don't worry, there's no smell!
Guest access
From the moment you arrive you will be in the company of beautiful trees. All of the spaces in the house enjoy a connection with the natural world. In addition to your private deck, there are 2 other shared decks to enjoy, a spacious kitchen, a lounge/dining area with fireplace for chilly winter nights (firewood extra cost), the side room that's great for hanging out in, a bathroom, and separate toilet. Venture outside and you'll have access to a second outdoor style bathroom downstairs, a hot water bath amongst the trees (when their is sufficient rainwater) and acres and acres of nature all to your 'human' self. Please note that the house is accessible by a long driveway with no turnaround, so you will need to reverse out when you leave.
During your stay
Ideally, I love to personally check you in and introduce you to the land, point out the quirky bits of the home and show you where the walking options are. Although I find it hard to leave home because it’s so beautiful here (!), commitments make that a necessity at times. If I’m home when you are, I’ll do my best to give you lots of space, and I'll always do my best to support you in your stay in whatever way you need. I am also happy to facilitate ‘retreat me’ extras, which include yoga, meditation, nature connection practices, grief work and Pellowah Energy Healing. This can be a beautiful way to support you during your stay and deepen into retreat time. Prices available on request.
Other things to note
I offer a simple breakfast of ayurvedic oats, plant milk, and fruit to make yourself, and there is always tea and coffee. If you have specific dietary requirements, you may feel more comfortable bringing your own supplies for breakfast, and of course you’ll need to plan ahead for your other meals - the closest shops are 25 minutes away. You are welcome to store anything you need in the fridge. Best to plan to disconnect from technology as there is NO wifi, and to date, no phone/data coverage with providers other than Telstra.
