The space
Discover Tukaway Cabin, a one-of-a-kind riverside escape in California’s beautiful Kern River Valley. Set on a stunning, oak-shaded acre directly along the wild and scenic Kern River, this reimagined mid-century cabin blends rustic charm with refined luxury.

Every detail has been thoughtfully curated from the art and furnishings to the landscaping and riverfront views. It creates a boutique-style experience that feels both elevated and effortlessly relaxed.

Inside, the spacious King bedroom opens onto a serene flagstone patio surrounded by native plantings and mountain air. The ensuite bathroom offers a bathtub and separate shower, while a second full bathroom adds extra convenience. The cozy living room invites you to unwind by the wood-burning stone fireplace, and the kitchen and dining area open to an outdoor patio perfect for al fresco meals under the trees.

The Cubhouse lounge with a fully opening glass door creates an airy indoor/outdoor space with sofas, games, and Roku TV which is ideal for unwinding after a day of adventure.

Outdoors, multiple patios and courtyards invite you to relax beneath the oaks, whether you’re sipping morning coffee at the live-edge bar, sharing stories around the gas firepit, or reading in the tree swing chair. For ultimate rejuvenation, enjoy the cedar sauna, Japanese cedar soaking tub, and outdoor rinse shower, or play a friendly game of cornhole or horseshoes on the sandy “island.”

Follow the path to your private riverside area, where you can dip your toes in the water, cast a fly, float lazily on the tubes or paddleboard provided, or nap in a hammock by the river’s edge.

Just five minutes away, Downtown Kernville offers dining, local shops, and small-town charm. Explore nearby trails, go whitewater rafting, fly-fishing, mountain biking, or simply stay put and let the peace of the river wash over you.

During your stay, you’ll have the entire property to yourself (including two additional unoccupied cabins) ensuring privacy, space, and pure relaxation.
Please note: If you'd like to add the 2 other cabins to your reservation, we have that as a separate listing called "The Meander" for a total of 6 guests. Otherwise those cabins will unoccupied & locked during your stay. We do not rent to multiple reservations on the same property - we value your privacy.

We also own/rent the property next door called 'River Willow Cabin for up to 5 guests. Please consider additionally booking that property if you have a larger party.

At night, fall asleep to the sound of the river in luxurious linens and plush beds under the starlit Sierra Nevada Mountains sky.

Tukaway Cabin isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a place to slow down, reconnect, and experience the magic of the Kern River.

Hiking trails, Fly fishing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Paddleboarding, Rafting, Rock climbing, Giant Sequoias, Isabella Lake, Kern Audubon Preserve, Spring Wildflower Blooms, Salmon Creek Falls – even a single chair lift ski resort less than a half-hour away - and so much more, await you all within a short distance. The area is home to an incredibly diverse natural environment with endless possibilities to explore. Have a quiet stay in Riverkern where you can walk to the General Store for basics, or drive a few minutes to Kernville to shop & get some dinner. Whether your visit calls for adventure or the quietude of a peaceful sanctuary, you'll find a very special place at The Meander.

Please note: We have a security camera pointed at the driveway in order to ensure only the registered guests are on the property. We don't record audio, and we don't have any other cameras on the property.

Riverkern is a small, quaint residential neighborhood just a few miles upstream from downtown Kernville. Our property has cabins next door on both sides. It's a quiet neighborhood with paved, well-maintained streets, no need for any specialty vehicle. The speed limit is 25 MPH on the main street with no sidewalks, so street bicycling isn't recommended.

Riverkern itself has a General Store within short walking distance from the cabin. You can grab coffee & breakfast or sandwiches for lunch! The General Store is closed from Thanksgiving (November) to President's Day Weekend (February).

Because it's a small and quiet community, it's very important to respect others' property and our neighbors. Please be aware of private property and of keeping the noise down at night. We've never had a neighbor complaint - yay!

We're in a very high fire hazard area, so outdoor fires or smoking are never permitted. Use of the propane BBQ & propane fire pit on the patio is permitted at all times of the year.

To get to restaurants, shopping and other local activities requires a short drive - 3 miles. The well-maintained, paved mountain road to town doesn't have a sidewalk or much of a shoulder for walking or bicycling - be aware!

PETS: Well-behaved and house-trained dogs are permitted with pre-approval, so please tell us about your pup (breed, size, etc). Please note that there is a pet fee per stay. The fee is for up to 2 dogs maximum. No other animals are allowed without prior approval.

The mighty Kern River runs at the back of the property, and you can access it by walking down a sandy path from the cabin. During spring runoff only, a small stream sometimes flows through the property (weather dependent, please inquire.)

For guests traveling with small children - there's a Graco Pack n Play with a fitted sheet, high chair, and baby bathtub for your use in the cabin. Outside we have sand toys & a variety of life jackets.

POLICIES:
1. Guest max for nightly rate is 2. Extra guest fee per night per guest up to 1 extra guest max.
2. Guest MUST review and accept the Rental Agreement and Contact Form that'll be emailed after booking.
3. No fireworks/outdoor fires are allowed (propane BBQ, outside firepit and indoor fireplace are OK)
4. No events, parties, photoshoots without prior Owner approval. We have a camera pointed at the street entry to ensure only registered Guests are on the property.
5. Two well-behaved and house trained dogs will be considered for pre-approval. Please tell us about your pet. Pet fee per stay will apply.

*PLEASE ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS when booking:
1. What brings you to the area?
2. What is the # of adults and # of children of any age in your group?
3. Are you bringing a pet (Yes or No)? If yes - please let us know breed, age, weight for pre-approval.
:) Thanks!
