As a family vacation home since 1978, we finally moved to Warren full time in 2015 and built this guest house / detached garage apartment so family & friends could stay too. The home, off a paved road, is totally secluded, and mere minutes to town, Sugarbush, Mt. Ellen and Mad River Glen ski resorts, the Lincoln Gap sled run, Ole’s and Bluberry Lake Cross Country Ski Ctrs, the Skatium and area restaurants.

The space
(FREE NIGHT : For those interested in the Christmas Week 2026, Saturday - Saturday, 12/26 - 1/2/27, happy to extend a FREE SATURDAY NIGHT, 1/2/27 with a late departure on Sunday 1/3/27, 5pm, if you would like to enjoy another day of skiing or just hanging out. Please advise in your request. A December month long discount also available until the first booking is made.)

The 1,000 sq/ft two bedroom apartment, has plenty of room for a family of four with an open floor plan that includes a full kitchen, dining nook, seating area with a flat screen TV/Roku/Netflix and fiber optic wifi internet. The mountain view spans the length of the space from the kitchen to the primary bedroom. The bathroom has a full size stacked clothes washer and dryer and a roomy stand up shower.
The Outside Space: Cross country skiing, snow shoeing and sledding is permitted around the entire meadow. The sledding hill can be groomed, time and snow permitting, please advise your desire to sled when booking. Happy to provide some sleds / snow tubes and can loan a pair of men's and women's snowshoes, sorry we do not have children's sizes but rentals are available in town. Conditions permitting, I groom a 1/4 mile sled run on an old unused town road on the edge of the property. It's not too fast but it is a long ride; the challenge is to see if you can make it the entire length. Motorized transportation back up the hill a possibility with advanced notice. (mini cat or snowmobile tow)
Skis may be stored in the garage with entry through the garage door if desired.

Please Note: The State of VT does not assess the Rooms Tax on stays 30 Days or greater and Hosts now currently pick up all the Airbnb fees, not the Guests.

Guest access
Access to the entire apartment plus access to the stream via a logging road. Please do not cross any ice bridges to the other side. Please advise if you would like to go sledding, snow shoeing or cross country skiing in the meadow.

Other things to note
TV - The space has flat screen TV with Roku. You can also access the Internet and your Netflix account. There is NO traditional cable TV. Guests may request Cable hookup; it can be arranged for an additional charge and a few days notice.
LANDLINE Phone - With cell phones in every pocket, we do not have a landline phone. Wifi calling will be best option.
INTERNET - We have high speed fiber optic wifi internet which is included. 100/100 mbps is the providers promoted speed, 90/90 is what I usually see on speed tests. From 2015 - 2024 it was 10/10 and it worked great for everything. Working and video conferences from the space has never been a problem. It can be bumped all the way up to Gigabits per Second and we can discuss costs if it's really needed. We have gotten great feedback from past guests over all the years on speed and reliability.
'NOISE' - MINE – I do plow the driveway myself and during big storms I may do a quick run later at night so the next morning will be quicker, and everyone can get out and go skiing. No waiting for 'the plow guy', he lives next door.

The Mad River Valley, comprised of 3 small towns, hosts 3 distinct ski mountains; Sugarbush - Lincoln Peak, Sugarbush - Mt. Ellen & Mad River Glen. Mad River Glen is the furthest away at 15 minutes and Lincoln Peak just 7.

The valley has remained a quaint, quiet and authentic slice of Vermont along the the Scenic By-Way of Route 100, which runs the length of the State. Being located in the center of Vermont makes the MRV close to many points of interest throughout the State.

The property is located just 2 miles from Main Street in Warren and the 'Almost World Famous' Warren Country Store and Paradise Provisions, only 7 minutes away, is near the ski resort on the Access Road and has fresh made sandwiches and a small grocery section.

Waitsfield is just a 10 minute straight shot North on Rt 100 and there you will find the full service grocery stores as well as several of our local restaurants, stores, seasonal farmers market and Lawson's Tap Room.

Scattered around the valley there is also an eclectic mix of small art shops, glass blowing and massage studios, and a Vermont artisan foods store, not to mention Vermont craft beers for sale throughout the valley.

My mother and grandmother gave the name La Chanterelle to the house in Warren in the 1970's; partly because they found some chanterelles on the property and I think they saw the house metaphorically as a mushroom in the middle of the large meadow. We live here full time now and as mushrooms tend to pop up here and there, the guest house apartment popped up in 2016 so our family could live in it while we renovated the main house and then family and friends could visit us when they wished. We now also make it available for others that may wish to visit this beautiful, quiet 'lightly touched' spot in the Mad River Valley of Central Vermont.
