Within walking distance to Salt & Straw, Oma's Hideaway, Ok Omens, Blue Star Donuts, New Seasons Grocery, the amazing McMenamins Bagdad Theater, and many more of our favorite neighborhood spots.

The space
THE URBAN OWL is a private daylight basement apartment located below our 1916 Hawthorne bungalow where we live. The Urban Owl is completely private with its own entrance, its own private garden courtyard, and no shared space with the owners.

KITCHEN: There is a full kitchen including a full sized Gas Stove, microwave, dishwasher, blender/processor, and refrigerator. If you are fellow foodies and love to cook, we have also provided some basic oils and spices for your use. You should find all the pots, pans, tools, etc. to enjoy your own home cooked meals. We are located in one of Portland’s best known foodie neighborhoods so why not enjoy both cooking and dining out.
The DINING area seats 4 comfortably, 6 if you get cozy.
BUSINESS/DESK AREA: There is not a separate desk however the dining area is configured with extra power outlets and a desk lamp to facilitate using it as a functional work/study area.
BATHROOM: Marble shower with fluffy towels & washcloths. Amenities including Shampoo, Conditioner, Shower/Shave Gel, and Hair Dryer.

HELPFUL Extra Amenities: For your convenience we also have a luggage scale, extra phone chargers, alarm clock, white noise machine, umbrellas and some extra rain jackets, just in case!

AC/HEAT: The unit is newly insulated and maintains a comfortable temperature year-round. There is a separate wall mounted heating unit in the suite just in case additional heat is needed. AC (Air conditioning/cooling) is connected to the main house. We provide magnetic vent covers if guests ever want to adjust the amount of heat or AC that is flowing through the unit.

AMENITIES Questions: If you have any questions at all about amenities, please don't hesitate to contact us in advance of booking. Airbnb made substantial changes to online amenity listings in Fall 2023 and it's possible that the conversion to the new "checkboxes" of amenities may not be as clear as before. We're happy to clarify in advance to ensure the suite is everything you need and expect.

Guest access
The Urban Owl is your private suite with private entrance. We live upstairs however there are no shared spaces. You also have access to a private garden sitting area with BBQ* that is not shared with the owners. You are welcome to use the porch area which would be considered shared space.

*BBQ is available June through September.

Other things to note
THE OWL has STAIRS: The Urban Owl is a daylight basement with 7’ ceilings and beautiful light. It has a PRIVATE Entrance with EXTERIOR STAIRS (4 Stairs up from the sidewalk, and 11 stairs down to the door.)

We welcome guests of all abilities however please know that you will need to be comfortable navigating several stairs each time you access the property.

BEDROOM: The bedroom area is separated from the rest of the living area by heavy velvet curtains. It is a plush Queen-size bed that is approximately 32” off the ground. Access to the bed is narrow and a step stool is provided if you need an extra bit of lift. Many of our guests have loved the bed enough to purchase the same for their own home.

We are located in historic Colonial Heights, in both the Hawthorne and Division neighborhoods of Inner SE Portland. It is a quiet tree lined residential area, blocks away from the city's best dining, shopping, and exploring.

Hello: My husband and I live in lovely Portland, Oregon and we look forward to welcoming AirBnB guests to "The Urban Owl," our deluxe private sanctuary located in the Hawthorne/Division "Foodie Paradise." We love to eat and cook and are excited to live blocks away from some of the most popular restaurants in the US. We also enjoy hiking in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, and closer to home in Portland at Forest Park. We work hard and travel often for a refreshing change of scenery. Some of our favorite travel places are Vancouver, Victoria, and Whistler in British Columbia. We love the Riviera Maya area of Mexico, and Kauai, Hawaii for relaxing beach time. So far Thailand, Bali, Ecuador, and Scotland have been the highlight of our adventures. We enjoy eating and taking cooking classes whenever we can, often during our travels. Cheers!
