A charming historic gatehouse offering the best of both worlds - all the convenience of a village with lots of local amenities and easy access to Cambridge – plus all the advantages of a rural setting, right on the edge of beautiful parkland and close to many fabulous local walks.
The space
Walk straight out of your garden and onto The Avenue, a historic walkway that leads through Quy Park up to Grade II*-listed Quy Hall. Have a drink with the locals at The White Swan, pick up groceries at the Post Office/Shop, both just a 5 minute walk away. Let someone else do the cooking as you chow down on pub grub or more formal dining at one of several local pubs and restaurants. Or walk across the field to Quy Mill for a spa treatment. Walk, bike or drive to Anglesey Abbey, less than 2 miles away. Or head into Cambridge. There’s so much to do from this location which is perfect for walkers, dog-owners and City-lovers alike!
The Gatehouse is a quirky, historic, Grade-II, flint-built cottage, which has been newly refurbished with love, and is yours exclusively for your stay. Downstairs there is a snug sitting room (complete with wood burning stove and complimentary logs); a small, but well-equipped, kitchen; and a small shower room; upstairs the bedroom features a comfortable King-size bed and everything you need for a perfect night’s sleep for 2. A large private garden offers summer relaxation and is enclosed for dogs. The Gatehouse is perfect for walkers, dog-owners and couples looking for a romantic getaway or easy access to Cambridge/Ely/Newmarket without the hassle of a City-centre location.
The kitchen offers an induction hub electric cooker, a fridge (with small freezer compartment), a kettle/toaster, cooking basics (oil/salt/pepper), and complimentary tea/coffee, and a washing machine (no tumble dryer, but drying rack provided).
Please note that although The Gatehouse is situated on the edge of the Park, the frontage is on the village road into Cambridge which can be busy at peak times!
Guest access
A self-contained home with its own front door and private garden. The Gatehouse has on-street parking (free) outside and is located just off the A14. There is a bus stop a minute’s walk away and you are on the cycle route for easy, sustainable access to Cambridge.
Other things to note
Please note the shower room/loo is downstairs and compact, so sadly we do not recommend this property for those with children or accessibility needs, and it is not suitable for more than 2 guests. As is the case with many historic properties the ceilings are lower than in modern homes!
We can however accommodate your furry friends! The gatehouse is well set up for dog-owners, with a large enclosed garden, separate access via the back door into the kitchen (perfect for drying off muddy paws), dogs allowed downstairs and a dog bed/bowl/towel provided. Up to 2 dogs allowed, [£10 per dog per stay (not per night) additional charge]. Please let us know when booking so we can make sure you and your canine companions have everything you need for your stay.
Several weekends a year Quy Park hosts events; if you’ve come to attend a Country Fair or see jousting knights then The Gatehouse’s location at the main entrance may be a bonus! But if you’d rather avoid it then check our website (or ask us) for dates of any scheduled events.
We’d love to make your stay memorable and can offer hampers to add a little sparkle. If your stay is for a special occasion how about a bottle of Champagne ready for your arrival? Or would you just like a hamper of grocery basics so you don’t have to think about provisions for your perfect breakfast? At certain times of the year we may even be able to offer beef from Quy Hall Estate- the herd grazes just a few fields away from your front door- steak doesn’t get more local than that! Just ask us when booking for options and prices.
Please note that parts of the garden have only just been replanted so it may not look its best until summer.
