Welcome to The Dewdrop, a cozy canvas bell tent nestled in an enchanting oak savanna just outside Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Step outside the tent into a landscape of winding trails through prairie & woodlands, a babbling creek, and enjoy the company of our friendly farm herd; llamas, goats, and pigs that live just a short walk from your tent.
Whether you are sipping coffee at sunrise or counting stars through the stargazing roof at night, The Dewdrop is truly a unique Iowa experience.
The space
The Dewdrop is open for stays from April-mid October-now accepting reservations for the 2026 season!
City close and country quiet, this stay is located on a private wildlife refuge and nature preserve just 10 miles south of Cedar Rapids.
Steps from the tent is access to over a mile of hiking trails, views of the wildflower prairie, and our friendly herd of llamas.
The Dewdrop is a canvas bell tent with stargazing windows for a truly immersive nature experience with the comforts of a queen bed, seating area, along with access to wifi and solar giving you the option to stay connected or unplug.
The tent accommodates two guests and while it feels wonderfully remote, you’re only a 1-2 minute walk to a restroom facility with a hot shower, flushing toilet, and sink for your comfort.
Located within a half mile of the farm is a local bar and restaurant, Shuey's, BAM'S Pizzeria, and a darling wine and spirits shop-The Secret Cellar. Within one mile is a gas station and convenience store.
Take a short 5 minute drive over to Swisher to check out Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery or grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the popular Kava House Cafe.

The tent is your private space to enjoy.

The tent was designed to have minimal footprint on the wildlife refuge and nature preserve and please note that this stay does not have amenities like a fire-pit or grill for guest use at the tent site.
A fire-pit is available to rent located inside the grain bin gazebo next to the bathhouse. $16 includes one fire-pack and rental.
Prairie Patch is a wildlife sanctuary and activities such as fishing, trapping, hunting, and foraging of any-kind is NOT permitted during your stay.
When hiking, please stay on the designated trails and on prairie patch property.
You are welcome to visit with our friendly herd of animals including the llamas, goats, pigs, and cats.
If you would like to purchase feed to treat the llamas, goats and/or pigs please contact the host for more information.
The common areas around the farm by the barns and play area are welcome for you to use including seating areas.
You can enter the llama barn located on the west side of the property-all other buildings are not accessible to guests.
The bathhouse is accessible to all who visit the farm which means other visitors have access to the restroom.
Other things to note
*There is not running water or a restroom inside the tent, the restroom is about 1-2 minute walk from the tent.
In case of severe weather you will have access to a storm shelter.
Please review the details in the welcome book located inside the tent.
Please ensure rain flys and doors are closed while you are not in the tent and during rain/inclement weather
The tent is located on a nature preserve where there is potential of seeing wildlife including but not limited to turkeys, deer, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, birds, hawks and more.
I do mitigation for bugs, but sometimes they can get in the tent. Please always keep screens closed on windows and doors of the tent to prevent bugs entering.
***There are absolutely no refunds for bug, critter, or wildlife sightings or encounters.
Expect the tent to be hot on summer days, keeping the roof shade in place helps significantly and fans will offset this.
You can beat the heat by exploring the many great offerings in the local area or taking an adventure down to the creek to cool off.
No pets are allowed, and up to 4 additional visitors are welcome for a day pass fee per person. We
