Extra spacious
Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Gracious, characterful, and deeply comfortable.
A two-bedroom riverside apartment, The Bowmont offers big windows, thoughtful interiors, and a deep bath made for long, relaxing soaks. Breakfast provisions from local makers are included, so your first morning never feels rushed.
A place to slow down, settle in, and stay awhile. It’s our unconventional take on Tasmanian luxury.
The space
Perfect for one or two couples, a luxurious solo trip, or a weekend getaway with a friend, the entire top-floor apartment is exclusively yours.
The apartment includes two generous water-view bedrooms (king and queen), a sitting room with custom-made window seat, an eat-in kitchenette, a separate reading room, and a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and a deep soaking tub.
Built in 1905 as a bank, The Bowmont still carries its heritage with quiet pride; polished floorboards, tall casement windows, all balanced by modern comforts like central heating, double glazing, and fast Wi-Fi.
The kitchen is equipped for simple self-catering, featuring a plug-in induction plate, a small fridge, toaster, and all the necessary essentials. You’ll find local tips in the house manual for where to shop, or better yet, where to eat out.
Franklin is far from the working port of yesteryear, but there is significant industry and agriculture in southern Tasmania. As such, you might hear the soft thrumming of lorries as they pass the Bowmont’s 110-year-old heritage frontage, or a cheeky neighbourhood burnout, but nothing the French and Belgian linen bedsheets can’t make up for.
If you’re the type of person who likes to soak up a century of history, read books or play backgammon whilst sipping a glass of something delicious, where you can find a spot to stare out the window and watch wooden boats sail by, then the Bowmont is definitely your cup of tea.
Guest access
Self-check-in details are provided before arrival.
Please Note: Our standard listed rate is for two guests sharing the same bedroom.
If you are two guests wishing to use both bedrooms, there is an additional $50 per night charge. Please book for 3 guests to ensure Airbnb processes this correctly. We can accommodate a total of 4 guests at The Bowmont.
We have off-street parking for two cars. There’s no outdoor space for guests, but on your doorstep is the expansive Huon River waterfront. There are picnic spots, walking tracks, and places to sit and ponder aplenty, so get out into it.
Your hosts live on the ground floor at the rear of the large building and are available if you need them, but as a rule, they will leave you to enjoy your own company.
Other things to note
The Bowmont is designed as an adults retreat and not suitable for children under 15 years of age. The apartment contains antique furniture, artwork and fragile decorative objects, has open stairs and other features that have not been childproofed, and is not equipped with facilities typically expected for children
The only access to the apartment is via the staircase, so please reconsider your stay if you have trouble with stairs.
There is no TV, but plenty of good books to read and vintage games to play. The WIFI is fast if you want to bring your own device.
We do have a cat who doesn't have access to the space, just to note, if you have a hypersensitive allergy.

Neighborhood highlights
Set on the Huon River, Franklin mixes charming historic buildings with thriving maritime traditions. The oldest town in the Huon Valley, Franklin is home to the Wooden Boat Centre, a boat-building school dedicated to preserving the traditional craft of wooden boat building - they offer guided tours most days. The neighbouring Living Boat Trusts is dedicated to maintaining a fleet of significant boats that celebrate Tasmania's maritime heritage.
The Huon Valley’s rich apple-growing heritage lives on in nearby cideries and roadside fruit stands selling fresh local apples, pears and other sublime produce. A short walk away, the Palais Theatre is a lovely example of Federation-style architecture and hosts a range of events, including the Franklin Market, held on the fourth Sunday of each month, and screenings of classic movies on the first Sunday of the month. Osteria Petty Sessions prides itself on homemade pasta, there’s an amazing cafe in the charming postoffice (get the toasty or Jackman & McRoss pies, and a fish and chippery, perfect for a casual dinner by the water.
We recommend picking up provisions in Hobart or Huonville en route, then you don’t have to leave Franklin at all during your stay. Franklin has a real village feel, and is perfect for exploring on foot. Wander along the picturesque riverfront, stroll the charming streetscape, and admire the historic buildings. As you walk, admire the local gardens – many are filled with flowers and heirloom fruit trees. Take a countryside walk along quiet lanes up to the hills behind the town for amazing views of the township and river below.
