The space
The Book Barn is a comfortable, large, open-concept space with amazing views of a farmland valley.
Adjacent to a circa 1870 brick house, the barn is constructed from old growth timber in the post and beam tradition. Modern amenities like radiant heat flooring and a heat pump ac/heater combo let you enjoy the old Vermont views in contemporary comfort.
Night skies are spectacular due to a lack of light pollution, and trails traverse 14 acres of hilly meadows that lead down to Morgan Brook—you can either hunker down and enjoy a quiet Vermont vacation, use the barn as your home base for farther-flung adventures, or both! You’ll be situated between downtown Burlington and mountain resorts.
The barn is a clean, eclectic blend of old- and new-word styles with a collection of Oriental rugs lining the floors of both the main level and the loft. Our ever-expanding collection of books will keep you company on cozy days, and the various reading nooks will ensure that you’ll find a favorite book before long!
The Book Barn sleeps 7, with 1 bedroom that has a King bed and a loft that features two twin beds, two twin-size trundle beds, and a fold-down futon. There are two lounge areas with leather chairs and sofas in addition to a living room and a 7 foot-long farmhouse table with both wood and upholstered chairs (extra chairs available upon request).
Two solar-backed backup batteries will ensure that you never lose power and that your visit is as comfortable as possible, regardless of the weather.
Guest access
Guest have access to the guesthouse, as well as the 14 acre property. Meadow trails traversing the property are maintained for guest use spring-fall, and snow shoes are available for exploring the property in winter!
Other things to note
The Book Barn is not only solar-powered and eco-friendly (we have a ductless heat pump for ac/heating and a high-efficiency heat pump water heater providing residential hot water), its power is backed up by two PowerWall batteries to ensure your visit is as comfortable as possible.
You can get to mountain resorts like Smuggler's Notch as easily as you can get to downtown Burlington. It's the perfect basecamp for all your Vermont adventures!
