The space
Hidden from the world yet surrounded by the renowned beaches of the Bay of Fires, SABI is a lovingly handcrafted stone cabin grounded in authenticity. Elegant in form, with earthy tones and raw textures, it is a haven for the senses.
Humble materials and a restrained palette create a cohesive and grounding experience that is unpretentious in luxury. Raw yet refined in its minimalism, SABI is intentionally pared back — there is no excess, no clutter, no distraction. Instead, its timeless simplicity offers space to breathe and reconnect with self and surroundings.
The cabin accommodates four guests across two king bedrooms. The primary suite sits on the mezzanine where a king bed rests on a purpose-built microcement platform. Alongside it is a Japanese-inspired onsen featuring a repurposed wooden barrel lined with salvaged copper. The second bedroom is located on the ground floor and features a custom king platform bed.
The kitchen is fully equipped with induction cooktop and oven, alongside custom ceramic dinnerware, mouth-blown glassware, cast-iron cookware, speciality Japanese knives and ceremonial tea and coffee.
Adjacent sits the dining space with bespoke table and stools crafted from reclaimed Tasmanian oak by local artisans.
The lounge centres around a granite fireplace constructed from local stone that rises six metres into the vaulted ceiling. Generous futon-inspired daybeds provide space to gather, read, or rest by the fire. Firewood and whisky are provided on arrival.
The bathroom is a retreat in its own right. Floor-to-ceiling microcement creates a spa-like wetroom with oversized rain shower, handmade brass tapware, and a reclaimed wooden trough — once used for berry picking and bread proving — now repurposed as a wall-hung basin.
The house itself is a quiet juxtaposition: romantic but not feminine, masculine yet nurturing, voluminous yet intimate. It is humble yet refined — and unapologetically unique.
Every element has been created with purpose. Intentionally pared-back the cabin provides a place of quietude; there is no excess, no clutter, no distraction. Rather, the timeless simplicity provides space to breathe and the opportunity to restore the nervous system.
Guest access
The entire cabin will be yours while you stay. Your privacy and seclusion is our priority.
Other things to note
SABI is a restored, design-led cabin grounded in the wabi-sabi philosophy of simplicity, restraint and imperfection. It is not a new build or conventional luxury stay. The beauty of the space lies in its raw materials, quiet minimalism and natural patina. It is best suited to guests who appreciate quiet luxury, simplicity and a more considered way of travelling.
The cabin contains a number of one-off pieces, including custom dinnerware, handmade tea-ware, designer glassware and ceramics. In keeping with the slower nature of the space, SABI does not include a dishwasher or microwave. Instead, you will find a handmade sink, Japanese dish rack and sustainable washing utensils.
The kitchen has been designed with restraint and simplicity in mind. It is well suited to slow mornings, simple meals, grazing boards and quiet dining, rather than extensive group cooking or entertaining.
SABI invites you to slow down. Spend time in the reading nook with our collection of coffee table books, soak in the onsen bath, rest by the fire or simply sit in the calm. To support this sense of presence, the cabin does not include a television. Starlink Wi-Fi is available should you wish to connect your own device.
Tasmania is known for its wild and rugged weather. An oversized heat pump and the stone fireplace ensure warmth and comfort throughout the seasons.
Bedroom preparation is based on guest numbers. For bookings of one or two guests, one king bedroom is prepared as standard. If you require both king bedrooms, please let us know prior to arrival so we can prepare the second room. A $50 linen and preparation fee applies.
