The space
Hidden from the world but surrounded by world renowned beaches, you will find a lovingly handcrafted stone cabin pure in its authenticity. Elegant in form, with earthy tones and raw textures, SABI is a haven for the senses.
Humble materials and a limited colour palette create a cohesive and grounding experience that is unpretentious in luxury.
SABI is raw but refined in its minimalism. The space is elegant and timeless in its beauty. To experience SABI is to feel a quiet and tranquil condition; where understated beauty has developed with the passage of time.
Every element has been selected with purpose. Intentionally pared-back providing a place of quietude, SABI celebrates negative space; there is no excess, no clutter, no distraction. Rather, the timeless simplicity provides space to breathe and the opportunity to discover an inner peace.
The cabin boasts two king size bedrooms that accommodate four guests. Located on the mezzanine, you will find the primary suite. Here, a king size bed sits atop a purpose built platform rendered in textured microcement. Accompanying the primary suite is a dedicated Japanese-inspired onsen, with a repurposed wooden barrel that features a bespoke liner handcrafted from salvaged copper. The second bedroom located on the ground floor has its own custom-built, king size platform bed.
A fully equipped kitchen comes complete with an induction cooktop and oven. Custom ceramic dinnerware, mouth-blown designer glassware, cast-iron cookware, speciality Japanese knives and ceremonial tea and coffee make for a curated experience.
Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining space with bespoke table and stools made using reclaimed Tasmanian Oak. Rich in texture and weathered by time, this piece, like many of our handmade elements, was crafted especially for SABI by Tasmanian artisans.
The lounge pays homage to a stone fireplace constructed from local granite that soars six metres high into a vaulted ceiling. Flanked by acres of couch there are two futon-inspired mattresses that rival the largest of daybeds. Ample firewood and whisky on arrival is provided with compliments.
The bathroom is a draw card in its own right. Reminiscent of a Moroccan hideout, the wetroom showcases floor to ceiling microcement evoking a spa-like ambience. An oversized rain shower, bespoke handmade brass tap-ware and fittings, and a reclaimed wooden trough once used to collect foraged berries and prove dough, now sits proudly as a wall hung basin.
The house is somewhat of a juxtaposition: it is romantic but not feminine; masculine yet nurturing; voluminous in space but intimate in feel; it is humble but refined. It is unapologetically unique.
Guest access
The entire cabin will be yours while you stay. Your privacy and seclusion is our priority.
Other things to note
There are a few considered decisions we have made that we would like to bring to your attention. SABI has a number of one-off pieces including custom dinnerware, handmade tea-ware, designer glassware, and other handmade ceramics. To protect these pieces we have opted for no dishwasher or microwave. However, to help the wash-up experience we have a beautiful handmade sink, a Japanese designer dish rack and sustainable washing utensils.
SABI is about reconnecting with self and loved ones. You may choose to spend your time hidden in our reading nook, absorbed in our expansive collection of coffee table books. Alternatively, soak in our one-of-a-kind bath tub, snooze during the day, snuggle by the fire, or just be in the calm. To ensure you're not distracted from being in the moment we have purposefully chosen not to provide a television. That said, if you travel with your own device, we have portable WIFI available so you can connect to your favourite device should you so wish.
Tasmania is known for its wild and rugged weather. To ensure our guest's comfort an oversized heat pump/split system and fireplace maximises comfort on even the coldest nights.
