Guests keep coming back, with many noting the comfortable bed and walkable location
Walk out the front door and you are four minutes from dinner on Market Street. Il Porto is on the corner. Carroll Creek is a four-minute stroll the other way. Private off-street parking is included, so you can park Friday and not touch the car until Sunday. Inside an 1858 row home: exposed brick, hand-blown wavy glass windows, a king canopy bed with a memory foam topper, and a private fenced patio with a fire pit for the evening. Dogs welcome. Walk score 95.
The space
The Red Brick Retreat on Market - 1,600+ sq feet. A little old, a little luxe. Step into this three-story historic row home, where exposed brick walls, hand-blown wavy glass windows, and original wood floors tell the story of a building on Frederick's maps since 1858. The slightly imperfect floors and walls? That's the charm.
We've paired all that character with modern comforts, from high-speed internet to smart lighting, and designed every corner with coziness in mind.

DOGS
We love hosting well-behaved pups, but to keep our home feeling fresh and comfortable for all guests (some of whom may have allergies), we accept pets on a case-by-case basis. If approved, there’s a $75 pet fee (already included if you added your pup to the reservation), which helps us cover the extra time and care our cleaning team devotes to resetting the space. Plus, it lets us continue offering thoughtful touches like dog blankets, a gated kitchen, and little treats. We just ask that pups aren’t left alone unless crated, use the nearby green space for potty breaks, and enjoy snuggles on the couch with a dog blanket. 🐶 We’re always happy to chat about your furry companion and see if we’re a good fit. 💛
THE PORCH
A charming, cozy space accessible from the 2nd-floor bathroom with:
•Bistro set & string lights
•Perfect for morning coffee or an afternoon tea break
•Please note: No children under 13 allowed on the porch unattended.
Whether you are here for an anniversary, a wedding weekend, or a long dinner and a slow morning, the Red Brick Retreat is your home base. Guests have walked to ceremonies, biked the C&O Canal, and driven out to Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg for the day, all without moving the car more than once.
Guest access
Private access to all parts of the house and private fenced in back patio. Upstairs attic space (next to 2nd attic bedroom), under stairs closet, closet in hallway bathroom and outside root cellar are locked and inaccessible to guests.
Other things to note
STEPS
The house is historic and has narrow stairs that may be difficult for some people to manage. There are 4 steps outside, 12 steps from the 1st floor with the bathroom, office, and main bedroom, and 13 steps from the 2nd floor to the 2nd bedroom. The bathroom is located on the second floor. Some older individuals or those with mobility issues may find the stairs difficult to manage.
PARKING
The parking space is in a private lot a 2-minute walk away. Some large SUVs or trucks may be a tight fit. Street parking is available in the event the parking spot is too small.
TEMPS
This is a 168-year-old house, so we have stocked it accordingly. Winter: space heaters, draft snakes, and extra blankets in every room, because old brick holds a chill. Summer: brand new HVAC with UV filtration, plus a window fan and portable fans in the attic bedroom, which is the warmest room in the house.
TV
The TV is an LG Smart TV with Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu pre-loaded along with other apps available. There is no cable or satellite subscription, so traditional cable channels and regional sports networks aren't available. Guests who need live local sports should log into their own live TV app (YouTube TV, Sling, ESPN+, MLB app, etc.) directly on the TV. Please log out before checkout.
LOCATION
The house is located in a downtown area. There is sometimes street noise, neighbors/people smoking as they walk by or in front of their homes along with other noises/smells that happen in a city. Cannabis has been legalized in MD as of July 2023. We are unable to control the sounds and smells outside of the house. Both bedrooms have white noise machines and the main bedroom has room-darkening blinds. Guests who use them consistently tell us they slept great.
LOST & LEFT-BEHIND ITEMS
If you leave something behind, message us and we will look for it. If we find it we are glad to ship it back, with shipping plus a $25 handling fee covered by the guest. We cannot guarantee shipping times and we cannot take responsibility for items left after checkout.
